Start Your Engines!
Vroom, vroom, it’s Monday and we’re hitting the road with a bunch of car songs for your listening pleasure. They were all the rage in the early to mid-sixties before the British Invasion knocked them off the track.
We did include a fun song from 1958 that pre-dated the car craze and another from 1971 which was a cover of a 1960 single (and was a bigger hit). By the way, if you’re wondering why there are only two Beach Boys songs when they practically invented it all, I have the answer. Yeah, I could have added more, and while that would have made Sandy Gaither happy, it would have forced me to leave others out. Time constraints, you know.
But it’s not all car songs. Several important events occurred on this date. There was a classic single recorded, two singers passed, and a song from the biggest selling group in music history absolutely flopped, at least temporarily.
