Remembering George

Some people still think he was just the “quiet” Beatle. On what would have been his 82nd birthday, we are paying tribute to George Harrison with a 11-song medley of his solo material.

Some of these songs will be very familiar to his fans; others not as much, but whether you recognize them or not, they are but a small glimpse into the musical genius of a man once considered to be so much of a “lightweight” as a writer that his efforts to find his way onto Beatles’ albums were repeatedly dismissed.

The medley begins with the final song George ever recorded (just two months before his death), and it concludes with the final song on his last album; a song that ends with a haunting chant delivered so smoothly in tandem with his son, Dhani, that you’ll swear it was just one voice.

In between those two epic songs, you’ll hear his first #1 single (the first of The Beatles to do that) and his final #1 (the last member of the group to do that) and much, much more.

The “quiet” Beatle? I don’t think so.

Ray as you know George was my favorite! I think he was a huge part of there success! I liked his guitar style he was what I would call a clean player stayed with the song and never tried to take his solos and out do the song!! And I think he kept his ego in check!! Thank you for this!!
    Sending love peace and blessings!!

      Thank you, Fred! ❀
I could not agree with you more! You described his contributions to the band perfectly!
      Love ya!

  3. Jim & Killian

I loved this. I remember most all of these songs because of my 3-year younger brother playing them a lot. The 3 of us boys lived on the 3rd floor of a large Victorian on Summer St. If we started now with the stories from that 3rd floor, we would not be able to finish before we are all gone!
My 2 favorites in this mix are “All Things Must Pass” and “Isn’t It A Pity”
Killian’s impression was that most seemed like they were sad songs and had a slow beat. He liked “Any Road” (because he loves riding in my truck) and “Brainwashed” (because it’s “silly”)

    Keep the peace, Ray. ✌️…😍…πŸ˜‚ & ❀️ desires πŸ’•πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ’•

      Thanks fellas! ❀❀
I like your two choices. In Fact, ‘Isn’t It A Pity’ has always been my favorite Harrison song because the lyrics were so spot on. I still find it hard to believe John Lennon flatly rejected ‘All Things Must Pass’ for the Beatles’ final album. It would have been a natural way for the band to say goodbye, and certainly an improvement over ‘I Want You (She’s So Heavy)’
Someday, when Killian is a little older, he’ll realize that “silly” song was actually George’s very serious take on life.
By the way, his request will be the third song tomorrow! ❀

      Thank you, Mary Helen ❀
George was, as I am discovering, a lot of listeners’ favorite Beatle.
      And for good reason.

Oh my gosh, I just wouldn’t have missed this for anything in the world. I love and loved to listen to George Harrison. I always thought he had such a great vocal and of course his guitar playing to me was not matched by anyone else. I agree that he always was downplayed sort of, But I always thought he was the greatest. Thank you so much for doing this. I cannot believe he would’ve been 82, and all this time I thought he was younger than me. Wow this was super! Thank you, Ray. You’re the best.πŸ₯°
