They All Reached #1

There are a couple of unique things about the songs in this medley. The first is this … Every single song reached Number One. The second unique thing is something we’ll address in the medley.

This chronological playback will take us from 1957 to 1977.

      Thank you, Mary Helen ❀
Every singer in today’s medley, including the lead singer on the Beatles, Doors and Badfinger songs, are dead. Every single one of them. BUT the nice part is their music lives on and on. ❀

Loved this very diverse group of songs. Were they all recorded by a second performer/group which also hit the charts? I really don’t know and I’m looking forward to learning what connects them all.
Killian enjoyed doing the math to see how old I was when each song reached number 1 on the charts.

Killian liked All Shook Up” (When Papa was just 4!) and Jimmy Dean’s “Big Bad John” (When Papa was 8.) He noticed that you didn’t have a song for 1962 (When Papa was his age, 9)

I liked “The Game of Love”, but don’t remember ever hearing the name, Wayne Fontana. You played songs by The Beatles, Otis Reading, The Doors and The Eagles which I liked the most.

I really do like all kinds of music now, but not always. I “hated” Country until 2001. Now I listen to it a lot, even many of the songs from pre-2001.

Thanks for putting these fun times together for Killian and me!

      Nicely done, men! ❀❀
I’ll play a “when Papa was 9” song next week! πŸ™‚
Wayne Fontana was born Glyn Geoffrey Ellis, but changed his stage name to Wayne (for John Wayne) and Fontana (after Elvis Presley’s drummer, D.J. Fontana. After ‘Game of Love’ became a #1 hit, Wayne’s head got a little too big and he quit the Mindbenders for a solo career, which never panned out.
And here comes the answer …Every singer in today’s medley, including the lead singer on the Beatles, Doors and Badfinger songs, are dead. Every single one of them. BUT the nice part is their music lives on and on. ❀

Ok, I read the answer above, but as I listened. I thought all the solo singers were dead but never thought about the lead singers in the groups. {honest!} Anyhow, I have sirius radio in my car and listen to 50s & 60s and the songs today hardly ever are played, so enjoyed these very much.

2/28/2025 Ted & I enjoyed the #1 Hits Medley & won’t look for a Friday post. I saw your above responses which included what they all had in common so won’t pretend I knew. Your very last song “New Kid in Town” brought back a memory of someone from my past who also fits the category. I know I’ve said it before but, the music in Heaven has to be heavenly. Thank you for the music & the memories Ray. Have a good weekend πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
