The Mystery Theme

There actually is a theme to this medley. If you try hard enough, I’m sure you can figure it out before I tell you, but even if you can’t, the music is fantastic!

By the way, if you’re wondering who the guy in the photo is, I can promise you if you lived in the Northeast and listened to radio in the 1960s, you certainly listened to him, and I can also promise he played the songs in this medley.
Boom Boom Brannigan was among the early disc jockeys during the golden era of AM radio. He worked at WPTR in Albany, NY from 1961 to 1976. In all honesty, Brannigan has nothing to with the “mystery” portion of today’s theme. I just felt like talking about him.

Anyway, to today’s radio listeners, Brannigan would be an anachronism.Β  Budget cuts at local radio stations and the increased reliance on syndicated programs have diminished the profile and relevance of radio personalities.

But man, we have those golden memories, don’t we, kids? And that is why I do what I do!

Memories … That’s What We’re All About

So, What Is The Theme?

Jay & The Americans – We Five
Strangeloves – Gary Lewis
Supremes – Animals
Kinks – James Brown
Sam The Sham – Herman’s Hermits
Bob Dylan – Byrds
Zombies – Yardbirds
Beach Boys

I thought the theme had something to do with Mary Helen but she is younger than we are!! I forgot how good our music was Ray!! The older I get the more I realize how much memories mean!! And you have always had a knack of knowing what to play!! I love what you do and all I can say is you are the best of our time!!
    Love ya

I love teasing Mary Helen about “This Diamond Ring” because she detests it!
I don’t know about being the best but I know I sure have fun doing it!
      Love ya!

I totally remember Boom Boom Branigan and WPTR…listened on my transistor and clock radios
I thought of several themes and thought it might be 1964, but remembered you had done that recently
BTW Fred I’m not younger…same age as Ray and only a year behind youπŸ˜†

Once again, awesome tunes! And a very special memory of my Mom and I singing Turn Turn Turn in our church choir in the 70’s. Loved singing with my Mom! Have a wonderful day, as i tune back into some more oldies. ❀️

I love it when a particular song bring back such sweet memories, as the Byrds’ song did for you today!

Great mix of very different artists and songs.
I think there was a big improvement of “You Were On My Mind” when We Five performed it.
Strange Loves’ “I Want Candy” reminded me of a time when I moved to Springfield and I was very attracted to a girl by the name of Candy.
Songs that Killian & I both liked were: “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”, “I Got You”, “Subterranean Homesick Blues”, “Turn, Turn, Turn” (Interesting history with the bible), “For Your Love” and of course the Beach Boys’ “California Girls”.
And Killian was very intrigued with “Wooly Bully”! LOL

1965 was a very interesting year, musically speaking. I didn’t include any of the five hits from the Beatles or three from the Stones!
I’m very glad both of you enjoyed it! ❀️❀️

Wow! Sure I’m glad I went back and listened to this one. From Jay and the Americans all the way through to the beach, boys! I love them all, but of course you know I love the beach boys, the best, and the song, California girls, is one of my very favorite songs. I still have a CD in my car that is 26 songs from the Beach boys. Guess I have to go on a trip to listen to all of it. I loved your theme throughout. I was trying to connect something other than a year I was looking more for The songs and what they all related to. But oh well it’s always fun to wait and see what the answer is. I have to say that I kind of agree with Killian who is interested in woolly bully. I actually danced to that song while I was taking stuff out of the dishwasher to put away. It helped me get it done faster. This was so fun. I just loved it all. Thank you for the shout out. Everybody loves to hear their name on media of some sort! You are the best! I’m still reserving one more day to listen to you later on this afternoon. We have got snow coming down like crazy all over again kind of a dΓ©jΓ  vu! Oh my God, am I in North Carolina or am I someplace else? Again, thank you so very much! πŸ₯°
