An Historical Wednesday!

Something a little different today. With the exception of the final two songs (which are both Christmas songs), all of the music is directly related to December 4. It didn’t start out with that intention but once I got started, I just couldn’t stop.

Anyway, let me discuss those two Christmas songs. Because it is three weeks until Christmas, I am playing what I like to call “novelty” tunes this week. Tomorrow, I will be dropping six songs into the Christmas portion of the medley.

Next week, I will begin wall-to-wall Christmas, and as we get closer to the Holy Day, the songs will become more serious and more traditional.

I loved this very lively session that we had this morning, and I have no real favorites. I did love hearing. Freddie and the dreamers, and I must say that what resonated the most highly was Rudolph, the red nose, reindeer by Gene Autry, who was still very much alive when I was a kid. I remember singing it in the backseat of the car going to God knows where with my mom and dad. And of course, Feliz Navidad took me back to California! Awesome selections today, Ray. You’re still the best! πŸ˜˜πŸŽ„β„οΈ

Two all-time faves Turn Turn Turn and Stairway to Heaven
Noted the long length of Smoke on the Water, Stairway to Heaven and the U2 selection I admit I did not recognize
    Enjoyed the holiday songs.
IMHO Christmas songs are carols to be played on Christmas Eve

“Classic” rock songs tend to be longer than “60s” songs. Radio stations, as a rule, wouldn’t play anything longer than 3 minutes during the 60s. Bob Dylan and The Beatles changed all of that and the 70s were filled with 6-minute (and often much long) tunes.
You are certainly entitled to your humble opinion, but there is a reason popular artists have been releasing “Christmas” album with that word in the title since the 1950s. Most of the songs I will be playing are songs about the spirit of Christmas, not the spirit of the holidays, and I will play “carols” on Christmas Eve.
My suggestion, with all due respect, is that you ignore the medleys from December 9 until Christmas Eve. I mean it and I promise I won’t be hurt if you do just that.
