Start Your Engines!

Vroom, vroom, it’s Monday and we’re hitting the road with a bunch of car songs for your listening pleasure. They were all the rage in the early to mid-sixties before the British Invasion knocked them off the track.

We did include a fun song from 1958 that pre-dated the car craze and another from 1971 which was a cover of a 1960 single (and was a bigger hit). By the way, if you’re wondering why there are only two Beach Boys songs when they practically invented it all, I have the answer. Yeah, I could have added more, and while that would have made Sandy Gaither happy, it would have forced me to leave others out. Time constraints, you know.

But it’s not all car songs. Several important events occurred on this date. There was a classic single recorded, two singers passed, and a song from the biggest selling group in music history absolutely flopped, at least temporarily.

Glad you commented on the Frampton selection as I could not see the connection but love the song
Tried to psyche out the last Beatles selection…thought it might be Baby You Can Drive My Car, but you fooled me with an interesting backstory

I love the Frampton song, too, but I had to play it as an opener because it sure wouldn’t have fit after I started playing car songs. ๐Ÿ™‚ I wondered how many people might think the Beatles song was going to be Drive My Car. Glad to see I fooled you!

Later than normal here, trying to get myself organized for my trip to CA. Oh, I just loved those two Beach boys songs so much and I have played them in my car so many times, I love cars songs in general just because I might have something to do with my leadfoot. Lol thank you so much for all of this, and I love to hear the backstory always think that adds so much! Looking forward to tomorrow, and remember โ€œyou are the bestโ€ ๐Ÿฅฐ

I listened to this, this morning on my phone. I couldn’t get it to accept my computer e mail so I couldn’t comment. Anyhow I loved the car songs and love the muscle cars of the 60’s. Nowadays all the cars look alike, can’t tell the difference between manufacturers. Even NASCAR’s supposed stock cars all look alike.

Thanks, Pat. Cars do all look alike today, there is no question. Back in the 50s and 60s, cars were all unique, especially those muscle cars! Glad you enjoyed the songs. ๐Ÿ™‚
