Remembering

I long ago made a promise that I would never allow this date to pass without playing a particular clip from the “Heather & Ray Show” at WCFR in Springfield, VT.

I have not forgotten.

Time does not diminish the sadness. It has been twenty-three years, yet in many ways it still feels like yesterday. The hurt and the pain will never go away, nor should it. Americans bounced back – as we always do – but the memories of those lost and the bravery of heroes who saved countless others will remain forever etched in our hearts and minds.

When Heather (and her real name for those who don’t know is Rose Thow) and I started our morning show on WCFR eighteen years ago today, we both knew it could not be the usual program of music from the 50s and 60s, a lot of laughter, and good-natured jabs at each other.
We spent the next four hours playing sound clips from that fateful day five years earlier and the music those events inspired.

You can hear below the way she and I started that show, followed by the song that has become synonymous with September 11, 2001.

I still can’t imagine the pain that many people in those buildings felt that day. It does still feel like it happened yesterday. Thank you Ray and Rose (Heather)
For the beautiful words to remember that day of 9/11.

A very fitting tribute on the anniversary of this tragic date
If we could only feel the unity immediately following that day

Ray & Rose, You made me tear up again. Wish I could have listened to the Ray & Heather Show back when it was on but am grateful that occasionally I get to hear important ones like this one. Thank you both 🙂 🙂 Lee

A truly sad, sad day in American history. Alan captured it perfectly. The division in this country makes it all even sadder day. Thanks to you both for this remembrance.

Thank you, Terry, That fifth anniversary show was the most difficult thing Rose and I did, It was four hours of tribute songs and sound clips from that horrible day. I appreciate your very kind words.

Karleen, thank you for your very sweet words. I clearly remember holding you in my arms in the station studio the day you told us the terrible news. I will NEVER forget Kevin’s sacrifice or your loss. Heather and I will always love you, and that means FOREVER. ❤️❤️❤️
