Your eyes are not deceiving you. I really do follow Tammy Wynette (who is on this playlist for a reason) with Led Zeppelin! Yep, it’s a diverse medley!
We’re taking a look back at songs released on this date, including Motown’s first #1 single, a couple of backstories, a dip into some country tunes, and a special birthday tribute to one of the best session men who ever lived!
This one times in at over 40 minutes but I’m not apologizing. I was having too much fun!

A Fun Wednesday Medley!
Buddy Holly – Marvelettes
Tammy Wynette – Led Zeppelin
Rivieras – Beatles
Peter, Paul & Mary – Rick Nelson
Association – 5th Dimension
Kenny Rogers – Beach Boys
Zac Brown Band
(featuring Jimmy Buffett)
I absolutely loved that opener, with Buddy Holly, and the first 45 that I ever bought was at the hop! And of course, I love the association and the fifth dimension. It was so thrilled to hear Tammy Wynette after all these years. I can remember playing her over and over in my car on an eight track no less. Well we have progressed a little since then. Thank you for the shout out.. You know, I love those beach boys! Interesting backstory on the Beatles song. You never cease to amaze me. I really love this medley a lot. Until tomorrow, “you’re the best” 🥰
Thank you, Sandy! Rave On has always been my favorite Buddy Holly song. My ex-wife loved Tammy Wynette so I was “subjected” to a lot of her! I’m thrilled you enjoyed the musical journey! 🥰
These were so awesome Jojo made me play them 3 times. LOL Thanks for making it a wonderful Wednesday my friend. <3
Jojo and you are the dancing queens! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! ❤
Great ending
For a short time each weekday we are knee deep in paradise!
Thanks
I am grateful you enjoyed that upbeat ending! I have been holding it in my back pocket for quite a while and finally decided to use it. Thank you!
Loved this one! I love The Beach Boys, but my heart always skips a beat, when I hear country music. I recently had the pleasure of attending Alan Jackson’s Last Tour show in Boston! I have followed his career since the beginning! Sorry for rambling! Thank you, for all that you do!
That wasn’t close to rambling! That was someone passionate about her music favorites. For the record, I am a huge Alan Jackson fan but Toby Keith was my favorite.
Another great mix. I always heard and sang the lyrics to “I Want to Hold Your Hand” the correct way. Too young in 1964 to hear “I get high”!
“Please Mr. Postman” was played a lot in my home, but the Association’s “Never My Love” is a favorite of mine.
Great ending with Zac Brown Band’s “Knee Deep”. Zac Brown Band is a favorite of my wife and me.
Thank you, Ray
Thank you, Jim! I always heard “I get high” but I was 13 and was too young to think about what it could mean other thn just being happy! As I said elsewhere, I have been holding that Zac Brown song in reserve for quite a while but since Jimmy Buffett passed on September 1 of last year (and that doesn’t seem possible!), I thought this was the time. I am very happy you enjoyed it!
Of course another great medley … LOVE every song!! PP&M had some great music … blowing in the wind is one of my favorites of theirs … of course can’t go wrong with Puff the Magic Dragon either!!
Great backstories, again new info I never knew!!
Reading your comment that Toby Keith is your favorite country artist makes me think of a couple of things … was so friggin sad he was taken way too soon and his last performance of “don’t let the old man in” …. POWERFUL!!
Have rambled enough …………..
Have a wonderful day my friend!!!!!!
XXOO
Thank you, Penny! I am so happy you enjoyed the music but your comments about Toby were very moving. That last performance by him is seared into my brain.
Have a beautiful evening!
XOXO
8/29/2024 Ted & I are a day late but the music was perfect. Ted enjoyed your bass tribute. Great medley, as usual. We stayed up past our bedtime last nite to watch “Toby Keith: American Icon” (9-11pm on NBC). It included, for the 1st time, his last studio session doing a rendition of Joe Diffie’s “Ships that don’t come in.” It was a tribute to him from a variety of artists, the military & his family. Once again, thank you & have a good day Ray 🙂 Ted & Lee
Thank you, Ted & Lee! It makes sense that Ted would have appreciated the bass tribute for Joe Osborn. I’m so glad you caught the Toby Keith tribute. He is sadly missed.
