We’re Not Dead Yet!

There is something very magical about music. The magic referenced in the title of the opening song today is the power of music to supply happiness and freedom to both those who make it and those who listen to it.

There’s something else very magical about music. Even if a song you might be listening to is 60 or 70 years old, the odds are pretty damn good you’ll remember it within 3 or 4 notes. I’ll bet that’s true with the songs in this medley. Know why? That’s because music is timeless.

The reason for this mini-rant and the photo below is explained in the early part of the medley. When the comment referenced in my explanation was made to me, it astounded me. No really, it shocked me and to be blunt, it pissed me off.

My love of music from the 50s and 60s is more than the fact the music was so great. Frankly, without the rock and roll pioneers of the 50s, we would never have had the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys, and a huge roster of 60s artists who all combined to change the world.

And there is one more very important reason why I choose to play oldies. When I play a song from that incredible era, I’m doing a lot more than just playing oldies, I’m playing memories! I’m playing the soundtrack of your life!

And I don’t intend to stop. I refuse to allow my memories (and yours) to be ignored or shuffled off to some far away corner just because we’re in our seventies.

Memories … That’s What We’re All About

Good morning, Bruce! I am so glad you enjoyed the journey back in time! 🙂

What a great mix of greats! The Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melodies” was one of the best “slow dance” songs of all time!

Tell that radio-station owner that if I am dead, heaven is great with these tunes. He should stick to the accounting side of the business because he is a poor judge of people’s likes in the music arena.

And your “blatherings” about the artists make listening to them just that much better for me!

    1. Ray (Post author)

Thank you, Jim! You have made my day again. 🥰I am so happy you the music worked its magic on you! That station owner has no clue about programming!

Ahhh, the 50’s and 60’s! And you said it, “we are not dead yet“. This was absolutely one of the best. Loved hearing the mamas, and the Papas, the righteous Brothers, the Beatles, of course, and everybody. This is always the greatest way to begin the day, and reminisce about things of days past. Sure do love having you back on the job, which is never a job. I remember my dad told me a long time ago if you love what you do, it is not work! Well, you’re right, it’s time to get on out of here, but remember this – – “you are the best” 🥰

    1. Ray (Post author)

Thank you, Sandy! You’re dad was absolutely tight. This ain’t no job, it’s a passion! I am so glad the memories and the music brightened your day! 🥰

Such a handsome guy in that picture. You are certainly…..not dead yet! Ray, I have to get some work done around of my house, BUT… It’s another beautiful day out and I think I need to take my dog and I for another ride and put the windows down again. When I said thanks for the memories, I thought
Of my brother in heaven. I told him to listen to these songs with me. Thanks again. I’m so glad you were my classmate.

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thank you, Linda 🥰
I do believe Sadie would enjoy the ride and if you play the music loud enough, the sound may make its way up to heaven, at which point your brother would smile down and say, “my sister rocks!”

Thank you Ray. What a beautiful thing to say to me. You made me tear up. I do hope my brother heard it in heaven.😘❤️
