We’re traveling through time with female Country Music Grammy Award winners today.
The Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance was first awarded in 1965 and that is where our journey begins. In the beginning, the award was named Best Country & Western Vocal Performance – Female.
Within a few years, the “Country & Western” moniker was changed to Best Country Vocal Performance – Female, and by 1995, it was awarded as Best Female Country Vocal Performance.
In 2012, there was a colossal change when male and female performances were consolidated and named Best Country Solo Performance, thus eliminating the distinctions between male and female performances. This was the result of the Recording Academy’s wish to decrease the list of categories and awards.
Idle Thought: Seems to me they could have just eliminated Rap altogether and been better off, but I digress.
Maybe it’s just me but I think this is amazing Factoid: The winner of the 1997 Grammy was only 13 when she recorded her award winning song!
By the way, it’s important to remember all Grammy Awards reflect the year in which the Grammys were presented, for works released in the previous year.

Good Morning Ray, This Granny’s #15 great child will arrive this year (check 1st line), it made me smile 🙂 Dottie West’s granddaughter Tess Frizzell has a Facebook page where she posts pics & stories of her family & others that I find interesting. Have to admit we own music by most all of these ladies. Thanks for this mornings medley. Have a good day. 🙂
Thanks, Lee 🙂
If you own music by these fantastic women, you have great taste!
#15 great grandchild?
Yes, 15th Great Grandchild! I think I’m getting old or maybe they’ll keep me young. Let this be a lesson to me not to mention typos by others but I did like yours & told Ted you probably did it on purpose to see if we’d notice. Take care, warmer weather is coming 🙂
Enjoyed this. I remembered most of them. They all were great and deserved the Grammy’s. Thanks.
Thanks, Nancy. I’m glad you enjoyed them. 🙂
Good morning, Ray! These women all have some amazing voices, What I noticed the most, is that the earlier songs are more mellow than the newer songs. Thank you for all that you do, to bring joy into the day!
Thank you, Donna. You are right on the money! The ladies did get a bit, um, louder. 🙂
I didn’t gain my appreciation for country music until the late 90’s, but have been listening ever since. I often listen to the older songs. The stories are so good.
I probably listen to country music just as much as my old rock-n-roll.
Thanks again, Ray!
Thank you, Jim. There will be another medley of Country Grammys (the men) on Thursday. You’re right about “story songs.” Country artists nail it every time!
Ray I just wanted to let you know I absolutely love having the country music mixed in!! I will never forget when Shania Twain first it the scene!! Great backstory on her!! Oh by the way Ray, Rap is something you do when you forgot your keys and rap on the door for help!!
Love ya
Thank you, Fred. Your Rap analogy made me laugh out loud!
Love ya
Trying to catch up today, starting, of course, with country. Hell yes, I love all of these (even though I don’t think Tayler Swift was ever country.)
Thanks, Pat 🥰
I think Ms. Swift’s country career lasted as long as most of her relationships. 🙂
True LOL.
