It’s Tuesday and time for the ladies to take center stage again! This is Part 2 of an ongoing series featuring female solo artists, and there are so many of them I’m going to need a Part 3 sometime next week!
Not all of these singers were chart regulars, but the songs I’m playing today drew a major amount of attention when they were released.
By the way, if you look at the names of today’s performers, you will see k.d. lang, but if you think that means either Constant Craving or Miss Chatelaine are part of the medley, you’re wrong.

Morning Ray, Thoughts this morning: Ted & I used to take his kids to ME every other Summer to visit his grandparents, uncle, aunt & cousins. When they moved North to Jackman we would rent a cabin from them & I changed the wording to “these boots’ one day out on the porch teasing Ted’s kids when we realized the people in the neighboring cabin were listening to & it made us laugh even more. Also realized that the $1 I sent to the Lesley Gore Fan Club was either 4 hrs. of babysitting or if later 2 hrs. working at the library. Lulu sang one of my favorite songs in this medley & I know it won’t surprise you that I have the book too. Always liked Bobbie’s song & wondered about the back story. (Today it made me think about suicide & when Sandy Kay jumped off the Queechee Bridge. Then you followed it by) Miss Osborne. I have a DNA connection I’m trying to figure that her last name is involved. Probably a coincidence. (The part in parenthesis I am not going to read to Ted as we were at his cousin’s funeral; mentioned at the beginning, when the suicide happened. We both lost people we loved then & i would rather not remind him) I have several books based on movies Bette Midler has been in. Nice collection of songs. Thanks for the music. Ted & I enjoyed it 🙂
That’s a mouthful, Lee! You packed a lot of memories (unfortunately a sad one) into this commentary. I am, however, glad you two enjoyed the music! 🥰🥰
Forgive me for saying so, but I don’t think Nancy inherited her Dads talent. Enjoyed all the rest a lot. I always think Anne Murray is Perry Como’s female counterpart…in that their voices were so soothing 🙂 Now I think I’ll google and see what was thrown off the Tallahatchie bridge…..NOPE Still no answer. I remember lots of speculations back in the day.
Have a wonderful day, and stay warm! As always Ray, Thanks for the memories and all of your efforts to keep your fans entertained XOXO
Thnks, Eileen 🥰
I agree (110%) with your assessment of Ms. Sinatra’s “talent”. Now that you mention it, Anne Murray very well be the female counterpart of Perry Como. Two great voices for sure! I know what was thrown off the bridge but I’m not telling … Nah, I have no idea!
I hope you have a very awesome day! Thank you for your always very kind words.
XOXO
Some very good music. I can’t even imagine what it would be like if all of these ladies would put on a two day concert together! Impossible, but just thinking about it makes me feel good….thanks for the thoughts , Ray!
Thank you, Jim. Yep, that would have been an extraordinary concert!
You did save the best for last and deserved a “turn up the volume” in my house! I have been a fan of k.d. lang for many, many years and was thrilled to see her perform at Jones Beach (second row) several years ago. It was EPIC! Her voice is so pure and so beautiful and Hallelujah is a perfect example.
Thanks, Rose 🥰 Her version of Hallelujah is stunning and I am so glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing the very nice memory of a memorable concert!
All I can say is with all I’ve been through in the last few months that k.d lang song hit me hard in a good way!! I agree with Eileen about Nancy Sinatra!! Dionne Warwick was one of my favorites!! Not sure about Lulu!! Maybe one day you will give us the scoop on the bridge!! Stay warm and safe!!
Love ya
Thanks, Fred. Nancy was very fortunate to have that last name. Dionne had a silky smooth voice and never recorded a song I didn’t enjoy. As for k.d., I’m very glad her song worked wonders for you. You are a very strong man and I am so damn proud of you! ❤
Love ya!
Hallelujah girls rock
As you said great songs by great artists
You just said it all! 🥰
Great choices today, loved them all. A few memories, also. It’s My Party, especialy. My mom had taken my younger brother and me on vacation(1st time ever) and when I got home found out that my “steady” had dated someone else. But things worked out later & “It was “Judy’s turn to cry. LOL
I absolutely LOVE that memory! 🥰
What agreat mix of songs, Ray! I thoroughly enjoyed. I too am curious about what the back story is on the Talahachee Bridge! The last 2 songs were so apropos, after watching the last half of Rosalyn Carters’ Memorial service. Such a beautiful and gracious lady.
You are the Treasurer of our memory box! Thank you!
Thank you, Bonnie 🥰
To the best of my knowledge, Bobbie Gentry has never told anyone the backstory about the bridge. I doubt she ever will.
I appreciate the kind word about the music, especially the last two songs. In light of Mrs. Carter’s funeral, I hope listeners found some comfort in those songs.
Missed this one yesterday, had a lot going on. Loved it. While my name is Nancy, I’m with others, Nancy Sinatra, not so much. LOL
LOL, Nancy, I think you are in the majority!
