Over the course of the past two weeks, I have put together medleys from 1964 through 1968, and I believe the response has been, for the most part, quite favorable. That said, I think today’s medley of songs from 1969 outdoes them all!
Yes, I could have focused on the music from Woodstock. I thought about it but didn’t, because I believe that music is best remembered when revisited on a visual basis. For example, “seeing” drummer Michael Shrieve’s electrifying performance on Santana’s Soul Sacrifice is much better than “listening” to it.
So instead, we’ve got music from two artists who appeared at Woodstock (I gave in a little) and new (at the time) artists, some of them on their way to superstar status. There are songs from artists who appeared on the music scene and then disappeared in a flash. We’ve even got a studio-only band who somehow became the biggest act in the world for a (thankfully) very short time.
And it all concludes with three legends, including a man who reached #27 on the Billboard Hot 100 at a time when rock music ruled the charts.
Yes indeed, this is really a good one!

Good day Ray, 1969 was an interesting year musically & otherwise. Ted told me his draft number was #4 but because he’d been kept back 2 years in grade school he was still in High School & he joined the National Guard. If he hadn’t been in school he would have gone to Vietnam. Well wasn’t going to write much. As soon as Ted has the neighbors trailer hooked up we have to move his daughters furniture to her storage shed today. 🙂
Thank you, Lee. All I can say is Ted was a very lucky man!
Can’t explain how much we have enjoyed the medleys of the past few weeks.
We truly lived in an era that produced great music. Your medleys are a constant reminder of those days and our memories of the times.
We will be playing these over and over Ray.
Marty & Karen, thank you so much for your very kind comments. They really do mean a lot!
Early college days
Guys put their speakers in their windows and blasted Here comes the Sun out over the Quad… exhilarating
You were right of course, this was an outstanding medley. So many different sounds
The stats about Sugar Sugar were incredible… bubble gum pop…no
Thanks, Mary Helen!
I’m so glad the music brought back some special memories! As for The Archies, I would have totally ignored it but it was (very sadly) the biggest song of the year!
What the heck was I doing in 1969? I remember the music, but nothing much else stands out. Oh well, I was back in Vermont & worked at Howard Johnson in Springfield and in the office at Agway in Middlebury for several years. I think I was listening more to country by that time. The !st Edition & Elvis’s song were really sad.(And The Archies wasn’t all that bad, ha,ha!
Thanks, Pat! The day I left for California, I stopped at Howard Johnson’s before I hit the highway. I wonder if we saw each other. 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the music.
Yes indeed I agree, this was a great one. Thnaks <3
Thanks, Nancy, I’m glad you enjoyed it! 🥰
69 was another great year for music as shown by this wonderful medley!!!
Every time I hear “sugar sugar” reminds me of sitting in front of the tv watching the Archies … LOL!!
By far my favorites were Kenny Rogers and Elvis Presley although I loved them all!
Have a wonderful evening my favorite DJ

Thank you, Penny! I’m so pleased to know you enjoyed the medley, even “Sugar, Sugar”! 😉
I want you to pay attention to what I say after the John Lennon song tomorrow, just before I sign off! 🙂
XOXO
1969, was a very good year, and my youngest and last child was born. Another boy how lucky could I be? I love the song songs that you played and they were ones that I played over and over again. I especially love the last song by Frank Sinatra. I thought Frank was Done singing but no, this was such a good hit! Thank you for this and thank you for letting me dally over getting to it. Love the music love the DJ, and Bray you have to know that you are the best!🥰
Thanks, Sandy! 🥰
I’m a lot like Frank was in 1969. He thought about throwing in the towel, but didn’t. Today, I think about stopping these medleys quite often but somehow I can’t allow that to happen. I’ll keep doing it as long as people enjoy listening.
