Another Throwback Thursday

It’s another Throwback Thursday with an emphasis on John Lennon on the 42nd anniversary of his murder in New York City.

You’ll also hear a monster hit for Jim Croce, Donovan’s first charting single in the U.S., a big hit for Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, and a song recorded by the Rolling Stones on this date in 1965.

We close it with two timeless Christmas songs.

Thank you, Dylan! Have a wonderful day! ❤️

  2. EILEEN CORRIE

Great tunes Ray! The Lennon Christmas song is beautiful. I remember crying my eyes out for a few years every time it came on….Being release right after he was killed 🙁
    Have a wonderful Day !

      Thank you, Eileen 🥰
A song about wishes for a Happy Christmas juxtaposed with John’s murder was very cruel irony.
I hope you have a day filled with smiles. 🙂

  3. EILEEN CORRIE

I’m sure you knew this but I remember being surprised when I first heard this years ago.
Singles “Woman Woman” • “Young Girl” • “Lady Willpower” • “Over You” • “Don’t Give Into Him” • “This Girl Is A Woman Now” Did you know that… In 1968 Gary Puckett and The Union Gap had six consecutive gold records and sold more records than any other recording act…including the Beatles.
I loved him…Of course I WAS A YOUNG GIRL LOL

Eileen, you are STILL a young girl! 🥰

Bad Bad Leroy Brown, remember that song well. Copied down all the words by listening to the record over & over so Ted could sing them with the band he was playing with. Lived in Rutland, VT so had a jam session in the front yard. Practice went well ’til we had a friendly officer stop by as there had been a complaint. They had attracted an audience so set up the equipment inside & opened the windows for those who did want to listen 🙂 Christmas songs have started so have a good day all. Enjoyed the medley, thanks for the morning music. After my memory comment I hope I’m still on Santa’s good list but if not…..it was in the late 1980’s.

Thank you for another memory-filled commentary, Lee ❤️

There is so very much I can say about this mix…but more importantly I want you to know that I think that since I have been here it is one of the best. (And you know the kind of rock I usually like.) It had me singing in the shower! It also bled of real radio, back in the days when radio was appreciated. Has it been long enough for a come-back? I think that it is very close. You put in just the right amount of comments in this mix…just making it feel real. In my opinion, you have this just right now. I’m hoping that your best friend – grandson will some day come back after he gets his feet on the ground to continue with your great work. You are able to make me feel great ALMOST every day…As a very good friend of mine who passed away many moons ago would say…”You are the Best!”

      Thank you, Jim.
I am glad you enjoyed this medley. I must, however, be honest about my “contributions” the past few weeks. Throwing in my comments is a very time-consuming process. Once the Christmas music starts in full on the 19th, the songs will have to speak for themselves.

As the Little Drummer Boy demonstrates,
music given with love is the greatest gift
Thank you for the joy and sunshine you bring to our lives regularly ❤️

      Thank you, Mary Helen 🥰
The little drummer boy was wise beyond his years.
I truly appreciate your very kind words. ❤️

  7. Nancy A Garbati

Another awesome mix, but then that is no surprise. Really enjoyed hearing Lennons Christmas song. Thanks again and have a fantastic day!

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thank you, Nancy 🥰
It seemed appropriate (but sad) to play John’s Christmas song on this date.

  8. Sandy Gaither

Another wonderful medley! Loved the tune spa Jim Croce, and Gary Puckett! It was all good but I especially enjoyed the John Lennon tunes and your dedication to him honoring him on the anniversary of his death. I don’t know why, but it is still a shock to me being in a city is big is New York City with people all around, how he could be killed in front of his own building I’ll just never know or understand . I’m not naïve I know there’s a lot of things happening in the world all the time but this was Unconscionable. He was great. He will always be remembered by people that loved him. The Christmas songs were fabulous, loved ending up with the rum pom-pom Pom! Ray, you’re the best! 🥰

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thank you, Sandy 🥰
I’m very happy you enjoyed the music. Yes, John’s murder was senseless, but all murders are senseless. His music, with the Beatles and on his own. will live forever.

  9. Penny S Capron

What a great mix to start with Jim Croce and end with Bob Seeger with a wonderful tribute to John Lennon!
Has been a rough couple of days with the worst my sister having issues that all started about two weeks ago. Is now on 2nd stay in hospital in less than a week and had to have emergency surgery last night … ugh!!
I saw you are feeling under the weather .. hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself .. you are PRIORITY!
    Hugs my friend
    XXXOOO

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thanks, Penny 🥰
I appreciate the kind words about the medley but I am so, so sorry to read about your sister. She will be in my prayers … and when I say that, I mean it. ❤️
      XXXOOO

  10. Pat Conant

Great mix again, Ray. So sad that we lost so many talented singers. Love The Little Drummer Boy (and Bob Seger). Hope you don’t overdo. We will still love the medleys without the DJ’s voice and if you decide to retire completely, we will still have the old medleys to listen to. Thanks for all of your work to bring these to us for all these years.

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thank you, Pat 🥰
I’m very happy you enjoyed today’s journey into the past!
It has been a long 17 years of doing this. It was never my intention to have the medleys come across as “radio” because radio shows last longer than 30 minutes. The whole point of creating a medley was, and still is, to bring back memories. 🙂
