#1 On October 13

Today we’re taking a look at songs that were sitting at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 on October 13.

It is absolutely astounding how much music changed over the course of the 21 year period we’re covering … and before you think I have gone a little crazy with the first song, I must point out that the song was #1 in the U.S. for six weeks, in addition to reaching #1 in Australia and #2 in Britain!

And the final #1 on the list? That one is for Wendy Plante who, at the age of five, fell in love with it.

In between are eight songs that should all ring a bell. I hope the memories come at you in waves!

Wake up Little Suzie. – My dad called every girl that I brought home “Suzie “. A very fond memory for me. Thank you, Ray…for bringing back a different memory each mix that you produce!

Jim, that is a wonderful memory and I am so glad I could bring it back for you!

Oh gosh, Mitch Miller, and the yellow Rose of Texas! What a way to start I hadn’t thought of that song in such a long time. I have to be honest in that I did not even recognize that last song, I must’ve been so wound up in real estate at that point that I never paid that much attention to the radio. I really loved all the number one hits from the different years, and I did know all the words. Thanks for this treat this was really special! Thanks Ray you’re the best! 🥰

      Thank you, Sandy 🥰
Yeah, Mitch Miller was really thrown in for fun. I don’t think anyone should expect more from him (or Lawrence Welk) on this site. 🤣
As for the last song, it stayed in the Top 10 for ten weeks. I remember Wendy asking me to play it about 10 times a day! ❤
I’m very happy you enjoyed them!

Fred, you are still killing it with these commentaries! It is always so nice to read one of your very cheerful (and well thought out) breakdown of the music. Today’s was absolutely brilliant, although you might be wise to chair dance with Nancy instead of Suzie! 😉
      Love Ya!
