Do You Remember?

There are certain songs you just can’t forget, regardless of when they were released. They can be sixty years old, but when you hear them again, they seem as fresh as if they were brand new.

At the other end of the spectrum are songs that were once wildly popular but have completely faded from your memory … until you hear them again and it is only then that you recall them.

That is what we’re playing today. Songs from the 1960s that were all Top 20 hits back in the day but fell off your musical map years ago. Not all of them fall into that category but even the ones you might recognize are rarely played on radio stations.

I have indicated the peak position on the Billboard Hot 100 in parentheses next to the artist name.

Good morning. I have to admit, that the only song that I knew was the last one. I really enjoy hearing new songs. Thank you, for giving me the opportunity to experience all of these wonderful songs.

      Thank you, Donna 🥰
I am very surprised that most of these songs were “new” to you. At the same time, I’m glad you enjoyed them!

I was born in 1961. LoL. And mostly growing up. I listened to country music. I really enjoy experiencing the “new to me” songs.

As long as you’re enjoying them, that’s what matters to me. 🥰

Along the same lines as Donna spoke, thank you for making me feel so young with this mix. I enjoyed hearing music that I had not heard before.

Thanks, Jim. Again, I am surprised that most of these songs were “new” to you but I’m glad you enjoyed them! 🥰

OK having read previous comments, I’m feeling like the oldest one in the group. I remember all of these songs, some more vividly than others. But I haven’t heard any of them in years. So, what a treat! This was a great medley Ray I really enjoyed it it was fun. Always good to reach back and pull stuff out of the hat. You’re the best 🥰

      Thanks, Sandy 🥰
You may be the oldest in the group (although Rodger C. might tie you), but the fact that you remembered them all is wonderful! It only proves you’re young at heart! ❤

Nancy started singing along with the Philharmonic right away!! Took me a minute!! Oh well that’s not the worst thing that could happen to me!! I knew I’d be a man!! Nice theme going on!! I am slowly remembering all of these!! So Sandy don’t feel alone!! Dandelion was a surprise after all she would make you wise!! Now let’s tighten up!! Add a little guitar so let’s tighten it up!! That was a #1 hit!! So Ray Nancy was ahead of me today!! She had no problems with her memory!! Mine was a little foggy this AM!! Great tunes Ray!! Love ya

I am so proud of Nancy! 🥰
Hey, you remembered a few and I hope they were pleasant memories. Well, maybe not Tighten Up. How that song ever hit #1 still shocks me.
      Love Ya!

This certainly was a memory teaser and I only get a C score
Enjoyed as always, but only a few tweaked my memory or what is left of it 😂

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thanks, Mary Helen 🥰
I am genuinely surprised by people saying they only knew a few of these songs, if they remembered any of them! I was sure everyone would say they remembered all of them so I don’t know if I should be happy or sad. I am leaning towards happy because hopefully the “new” songs were met with approval.

  6. Nancy A Garbati

Great way to start my day! Thank you <3

Thank you, Nancy ❤ I hope Jojo enjoyed it, too.

I think my eyes are showing now how little I can see now but tomorrow I see the specialist about cataract surgery. Still have macular degeneration but it hasn’t changed a lot in the past 20 years but sunglasses are good ‘specially for those with blue eyes. Cataracts there is something that can be done. Saw the First Edition in 1970 & they are a go to band for me when listening. Peter Noon is really nice. Saw him as a solo. Do not recognize the Rolling Stones song. Probably ‘cuz I didn’t listen to them much as the thought they were better than the Beatles & I didn’t but they’re still here & they’ve had a couple songs I’ve liked. Finished alphabetizing all the CD’s today & Ted & I are putting down new tiles in the dining room (mostly Ted). Music & break is over. Have a good day & thanks for the tunes & memories. 🙂

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thanks Lee 🥰
I’m sorry about the eye problems but I urge you to stay on top of the possibility of having cataract surgery. Mine improved my vision SO much! Good job on getting the music in order!
      Please take care of yourself!

I guess I’m pretty old ’cause I remember all except The Dave Clark Five one. Tighten Up was really #1? Love Johnny Tillotson. I would like to know what years these were hits.

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thanks, Pat 🥰
      Here you go…
      Neon Philharmonic 1969
      First Edition 1969
      Brooklyn Bridge 1969
      Neil Diamond 1967
      Herman’s Hermits 1965
      Johnny Tillotson 1963
      Rolling Stones 1967
Archie Bell & The Drells 1968 (and yeah, somehow it hit #1)
      Dave Clark Five 1965
      Bobby Sherman 1969

      1. Pat Conant

Thanks, Ray. Surprised that the Dave Clark Five was a 65 hit. Thought I was more tuned in then, then during the later years of the 60’s.

        1. Ray (Post author)

It didn’t help that the song was pretty forgettable, Pat. It certainly wasn’t one of their best.
