Sax Appeal!

Are you in the mood for … Sax? Well, you’ve come to the right place because today’s medley features classic rock songs oozing with sax appeal.

The saxophone is so human. Its tendency is to be rowdy, edgy, talk too loud, bump into people, say the wrong words at the wrong time, but then, you take a breath all the way from the center of the earth and blow. All that heartache is forgiven. All that love we humans carry makes a sweet, deep sound and we fly a little.

I have listed below the name of the artists with the sax player in parentheses.

You should have added ā€œI Still Believeā€ by Tim Cappello to this. Great songs!!!!

Jackie, that is a wonderful song, no doubt, but as the slogan says, “Memories … That’s What We’re All About” and the sad fact is the song was not a single and I have a serious doubt that many people ever heard it before.

Well oh well do I feel special!! Somebody knows I like to get saxy!! You don’t have to be a Foreigner to love the sax and this player also could sing how about Shotgun!! Now this next guy played like a “Hurricane”! Ray this guy was ba,ba, ba, bad to the bone!! Nothing like a little true love and if you are Dutch you’d know this saxman played with the Eagles as well!! And I sure do have a true love!! Ray remember we would go down to Baker Street but I don’t remember us crying!! So this sax was A Britt!! I think he did settle down thanks to Mr. Rafferty! And every day is a new mornin’! Only a band called the Beaver Brown Band would know you need a Tenor sax for this song!! Now Supertramp was one heck of a band name! Another Britt on the sax!! Who I am is is well I don’t know!! Ray I can see the light and as long as I can I will love every minute of it!! I’ll bet most of us did not know that John Fogerty played the sax lead on this song and the electric piano!! What talent!! FANTASTIC Ray loved it!! I think I’m going to get a little saxxy this AM!!
    love ya!!

Fred, I was hoping this medley would please you and it sound like it did! There were so many other great “sax” songs I could have included so maybe I’ll put together a Part 2 soon! I agree that very few would know Fogerty played that sax solo. A very multi-talented man, that’s for sure.
I’m sure Nancy would be thrilled if you got a little saxxy this morning!
      Love Ya!

Love this medley Ray. Nice change of pace and am looking forward to part two. It seems we share an appreciation for Gerry Rafferty. Always felt he was over looked by many. I was not aware John Fogerty was an accomplishment saxophonist. Keep on educating us!

Thanks, Marty! I have long admired the music Gerry Rafferty left us with. He was, for sure, underrated and sadly unappreciated. I could listen to that man all day long. Glad you enjoyed it!

Ravenscourt and Fogarty! They are the ones I loved the most in this medley. Iā€™ve always loved the saxophone, particularly people who can just make it talk! I had an uncle one of my momā€˜s brothers, who used to be in a little quartet he played the saxophone and then there was a clarinetist a drummer and I believe a trombone. Was so long ago itā€™s hard to remember. I was only a kid at the time. But I can remember how much I loved listening to that sax. Unfortunately he was called away to the Korean conflict and when he came back, things were just never the same. I felt so bad that he never continued. Anyway this was fabulous, and I really look forward to part two. This is a nice change. Thanks Ray! Youā€™re the best! šŸ„°

I have loved the sound of a saxophone since I wa a kid. That instrument can really talk to you! Fascinating story you shared and yes, it was a pity things changed for him after his return. I am so, so glad you enjoyed the music!
