Continuing our look back at heavy rock, we turn our attention to the 1970s. Certainly, that decade had more than its fair share of ballads, pop hits, and yes, even disco, but this week is all about the heavier side … and the 70s certainly had that.
I could have made this a lot longer but the 70s were also the decade songs were getting much longer, so I decided to cut it off at 45 minutes.
Ten classic artists … Ten classic songs!

Ray it took me a minute to realize that the drums were playing the intro I thought it was my feet tapping getting ready to chair dance!! It has been a long time since I heard this song!! Ray I was born to be a ramblin’ man till I found out I couldn’t ramble!! Didn’t Hank Williams have this song?? Betts was perfect for this song!! And you are darn right war isan’t good for anything!! The seventies was finally the end of the Vietnam War!! 1955/1975!! Thank goodness for that American woman saying goodbye!! Then we had an American girl!! LSD was said to be the reason why she jumped off her balcony thinking she could fly!! Funny we had Meatloaf for dinner last nite but I don’t think that was what you were thinking!! There ain’t no doubt about it Ray!! I am in Dire Straits This was not a Cheap Trick Mommy and Daddy were alright!! We used you to live it up on Friday night!! But I went into a Grand Funk something to do with a sultan!! And it was nice to end with an American band!! There is ringing in my ears! Ray I think you will have to show me the way!!
love ya!!
I’ve said this before, Fred, but I truly do believe that this one was your best one ever!. Simply outstanding!
Love Ya!
More great songs . With the first one Led Zeppelin I wanted to get up dancing. There were others too.
Thank you, Rodger. I had a lot of fun putting this one together. 🙂
Ray it is so nice to see so many new people enjoying your Streamingoldies!! I would like to welcome all to this site!! Nice to see Rodger!! This does always make my day!! I miss a few once in awhile but I always get caught up!!
love ya!!
This was great kind of caught me up on some things I may have even missed. This was kind of like a period of time when I was wrestling with three young babies, and may not spend as much time listening to that kind of music. Of course there were ones that I knew that I could never forget.Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, and have always loved dire straits. It was a good grouping and I appreciated all of the efforts that went into it. Thanks Ray! You’re the best! 🥰
Thank you, Sandy 🥰
Yeah, this one was a little out of the ordinary for me, but some of these songs are 50 years old so I guess they qualify as oldies. 🙂 I am very happy you enjoyed them!
Love those 70s rockers!
Your medleys are never a Cheap Trick and always get us out of Dire Straits or a Grand Funk
☮️❤️🎶
Thanks, Mary Helen 🥰
Very clever commentary. I’m glad I have you to Show Me The Way!
This “American Girl” usually likes the more mellow songs, but I have really enjoyed this rockin’ stuff this week. The Allman Brothers has always been a favorite. They are kind of country rockers and Fred is right, Ramblin Man was a Hank Williams song. Don’t know if he wrote it.
Thanks, Pat. 🥰 I am so glad you have been enjoying the rockin’ stuff this week. I will get back to “regular programming” next week.
Ramblin’ Man was written and sung by guitarist Dickey Betts, but the song was indeed inspired by Hank Williams’ 1951 song.
what a wonderful medley from a great era … most young people today don’t have a clue that the BEST music ever came from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s
You can’t go wrong with Ramblin Man to American Woman to We are an American Band…my fav on this list is Show me the way 🙂
Have a wonderful afternoon my friend!
Thanks, Penny! 🥰
I KNEW you would enjoy this!
Have a wonderful evening, young lady!
