Mostly Mellow 1960s!

I was reminded in an email the other day that it doesn’t always have to be about fast rock and roll. The writer asked, “whatever happened to mellow songs once in a while?”

And so today he will get what he asked for in the form of a mostly mellow medley of 1960s soft rock classics.

Yes, I do count Norman Greenbaum’s song – one of the best selling one-hit wonders of all time – to be on the mellow side, but if you don’t agree, that’s why I took the safe way out and labeled this medley as “mostly mellow.” 🙂

Thanks Ray for “whipping together” a bit of mellow. The 60’s did have a mellow side as well … With all that’s going on in the world it’s nice to listen to mellow! Your knowledge of music is incredible — but after reading your history lessons for so long I shouldn’t be surprised. And you whip up birthday cakes that are too pretty to cut! You are definitely a man of many talents.

Take care and enjoy spring …. it’s finally here!!!!!

      Thanks, Barbara 🥰
It’s funny that you mentioned the history lessons. The other day I was looking at one of them for April 4. I came very close to re-posting it but then reminded myself that once I started, it would be difficult to stop, so since I’m beginning a (very) long break next Thursday, it was best to leave it alone.
The birthday cakes are fun but that responsibility now rests with Nancy so my “baking” days appear to be over.
I’m glad you enjoyed the music on this dreary day and I hope you have a wonderful summer!
      Rock This Life!

The music was mellow but the messages were not…lost love, desire, political foment and longing

      Thank you, Mary Helen 🥰
These songs prove that you don’t have to be loud to make a point.

I have always been drawn to the “mellower” side of music, and these were perfect. I hadn’t heard Aaron Neville in forever-a beautiful voice & a great song. It’s amazing, and sad, how 60+ years have gone by so much remains the same. I’m certainly not “California Dreaming” these days! P.S thanks for my country medley. I will surely listen to it again and again!!

      Thanks, Pat 🥰
Aaron Neville has a voice that almost “aches” yet he is so easy to like. He’s always been a favorite of mine. No, I believe I would pass on moving back to California. It is a disaster zone.
      Enjoy the Country tunes!

Ray I forgot you had a date with a pretty ballerina!! Her hair was so brilliant that it hurt my eyes! I was surprised when you asked her to dance and she obliged you!! Was I surprised Yeah! Was I surprised no not at all!! Then Ray all the leaves were grey and there was a man with a gun over there and he was telin’ me I’ve got to be aware He said that nobody is right but he said that your beautiful ballerina was gone!! We should have stopped and listened to that sound!! Oh Ray just close your eyes and clap your hands and she’ll be there!! She’s in that spirit in the sky! I know you have a friend in Jesus!! Ray she was a Diamond in the ruff!! But don’t worry Ray she’ll be a woman soon Just go take her hand!! If you are surious I will tell it like it was!! Ray life is to short for sorrows so just tell it like it is!! I know you were just a poor boy when you left your home and I know your story is never told and you were just a boy but the moral to this story is just keep dancin’ because Ray that ballerina was only your first dance!!

Fred, you’ve done it again, Fred. Another story within a medley! Brilliant!
By the way, that ballerina was very pretty but she dumped me for a guitarist from a local band! Don’t worry about that man with a gun. It’s not me looking for that guitar player. 🙂
      Love Ya!

Hey Fred, I actually listen before you today! Anyhow your “story” is great, as usual. Maybe you should write a book about all these medleys.

        Excellent idea, Pat!

  5. Penny

What a great medley. Not familiar with the first one but sang along with all the others! 🙂 Sad to see we won’t be seeing medley’s from you for a while but I know everyone needs a break and you put so much of yourself and your time into these medleys!! I hope your time off is for good reasons and the weather is nice for you to enjoy.
In the meantime I look forward to at least a few more medley’s
Take care my friend and have a great day!

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thanks, Penny 🥰
Glad you enjoyed the music and I’m glad you sang along! 🙂
Yes, I will be leaving soon for quite a while. I have to admit I am feeling very burned out, and at (almost) 72, I need to step away and restore my energy. You can always go to Memory Medleys on the site menu and find every medley for the past 6-7 years. That should keep you busy! 😉
Have a great day, young lady. 🥰

      1. Penny

I know exactly what you mean with burn out! There are times you need to step away for yourself and you my friend deserve that more than anyone! Do try to hop on every once in awhile and let us all know how you are doing! Am sure I speak for everyone else … gonna miss you!
I have gone into past medleys before when you have taken time off and will definitely do again this go round!
Make sure you do something special for yourself as you have earned it and so much more!

          Sweet, sweet Penny ❤
I appreciate your lovely words. I do need this break. I’m not getting any younger. 🙂

Sorry for listening to this a day late, yesterday I was licking my wounds so to speak, after having had my second Covid booster. Just felt very lethargic and my arm feels like it weighs 10 tons. This was a really easy listening medley. I loved it, sing along with the songs as always, and a new one in the mix hadn’t heard anything from Aaron Neville in quite a while. Just love his voice. And ending with Simon and Garfunkel oh my gosh love them!! This was fabulous thank you so much Ray! You’re the best! 🥰

      Thank you, Sandy 🥰
Never feel bad about being “late” with a comment. I know people get busy for a variety of reasons (hopefully not one as painful as yours). When I got my second booster, I had the same “heavy arm” reaction and I do hope you’re feeling better soon.
I’m glad you enjoyed the calming tunes and I agree with you on Aaron Neville’s voice.
      Feel Better Soon! 🥰
