The Sounds of 1959!

So what did the music of 1959 sound like? There was straightforward rock and roll, folk music, jazzy singles, and of course, there were tender ballads.

Today we have a combination of it all, and if you believe I have strayed too far away from the rock oldies I usually play, it’s important to remember that the music of 1959 was scattered all over the place. Today’s medley proves that.

This is what I call a dreamy medley! Oh my gosh Johnny Mathis, the crooner of all time! Brooke Benton, boy could he get down low in those notes. All in all I just loved every single one of these songs, mostly because they were in the very beginning it seemed of My realizing music of my time. But very beginnings of rock ‘n’ roll. This was great Ray, some great selections were made, and made us all realize how this whole thing started! Just loved it you’re the best Ray! ❤️

      Thanks, Sandy 🥰
I know the girls all love Johnny but I’ll take Mr. Benton’s smooth voice any day. At the time, the music of 1959 didn’t mean a thing to me but looking back as an adult (as opposed to a 9-year old kid), I have a very deep appreciation for all of it. ❤️

Ray you know you thrill us with your magic touch!! I’m going to scream about it there ain’t no doubt about it!!(chair dancing) A subway increase whats new?? Did you hear about the man named Charlie? Well one fateful and tragic day he put ten cents in his pocket and kissed his wife and family and went for a ride on the MTA!! The story is he never returned and his fate was never learned(what a pity)but I heard about a shark! Turns out it was Mack the knife!! They said with his pearly white teeth with a jackknife he kept out of sight but Ray I think that’s what happened to poor Charlie!! What a sight they found him ozing on the sidewalk!! Ray are the stars out tonight(sha bop sha bop)The moon may be high(hence the name moonshine!!)but I can’t see a thing in the sky(sha bop sha bop) I don’t know if we’re in a garden or a crowed avenue(I should have quit drinking that darn moonshine!!)All the people disappear from view Hey ray maybe I only have eyes for you!! Ray it’s just a matter of time you gotta remember what goes up must come down!! I hope you don’t pass to the end of time and you laughed and called me a clown! If I said it once or twice I’ll say it again..in your search for fortune and fame what goes up must come down!! I’m not worried Ray after all it’s only a mtter of time!! Ray I’m as helpless as a kitten in a tree and I feel like I’m clinging to a cloud!!(try these gummy bears they said they will only make you relax!!) I’m getting misty and a thousand Violins are starting to play that music and I wander through this wonderland never knowing my right foot from my left my hat from my gloves Ray I’m to misty in love!! love ya!!

Fred, Fred, Fred, I never would have thought about Charlie getting taken out by Mack! 🙂 And who knew the name moonshine came from the moon being so high? 🙂 I’m thinking it’s just a matter of time before you get stumped on doing these, and I think that day is tomorrow because the Wednesday Doo-Wop medley is 70 minutes long! Now, now, don’t get all misty on me. Chew on a few gummy bears. That might help. 🙂
      LOVE YA !

A fine choice of tunes. Mack the knife and Misty were my favorites….such a sucker for Johnny’s voice.

Thanks for the memories, Ray 🙂

      Thanks, Eileen 🥰
I think all women have it in their DNA to love Johnny’s voice. ❤️
It is estimated that Mathis has sold over 350 million records worldwide, more than any solo recording artists other than Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. To date, 73 of his albums have reached the Billboard Top Album charts, and of his 200 singles, 71 have charted worldwide.

As a 13-year-old, in 1959, I loved Ricky Nelson. Couldn’t wait until the end of Ozzie & Harriet show to hear him sing. Another singer lost to drugs. It is a toss-up between Benton & Mathis for me. Love them both. Another great year in music history.

      Thanks, Pat! 🥰
I was sure that 1959 music would be right up your alley! Maybe a “singing duel” between Benton and Mathis might be in order someday! 🙂
