Pioneering Female Singers

Thursday is the day we put a one day hold on rock and roll memories and turn our attention to country music classics.

This week it’s time to get back to the ladies and the primary focus is the pioneering women who paved the way for today’s superstars.

There are eight songs in this medley and they aren’t just any eight songs. Every single one of them reached the top of the Billboard Country Music charts! Five of these iconic singers (indicated by a * next to their name) are inductees in the Country Music Hall of Fame, one of the highest honors the genre can bestow.

      Thank you, Linda 🥰
I’m so glad you enjoyed the music. There certainly are some great singers in this collection.
      Have a wonderful day! 😘

  2. Barbara

These originals were all mighty women! The early days for them were not easy …. and they faced tragedies. They sang from the heart about the good times and the bad times. I love these Thursday selections Ray … thank you for giving us music that is so good for our souls. And I know you know it is! We need it these days. Rock this day my friend …. it’s off to a wonderful start.

Thank you, Barbara. I’m glad you enjoy these Thursday journeys back in time. The eight artists I selected today were so vital to the growth of country music but there are a lot more artists, both male and female, that I will be getting to in the weeks ahead.
      Rock The Day!

Well Ray you did it again, what a mix! These woman are all Superstars. The emotion they bring to the songs makes my heart melt. You can feel the pain and heartbreak in every note. Simply Amazing. Words fail me. I just want to hold them and comfort them. Each and everyone of them are singing straight from the heart. One final note and I know an unpopular one, the steel guitar adds an element of sorrow that can not be duplicated. If that is the “twang “ that people complain about, they ain’t Country. Love it. Thanks Ray for a fine selection of tunes. Country Rules.

Thank you, Don. Once again you have encapsulated the true feeling of country music. I have no problem with the “twang”. It speaks to the heart. Tammy Wynette’s song were filled with it and without it, she wouldn’t have become the legend she rightfully is.

Ray, this was absolutely over-the-top perfect! Just to know that I had eight tracks tapes for all of these artists and listen to them all so many times that I wore a couple of them out. These female country artist were the leaders of the industry that just were unmatched later on. As far as I’m concerned, nobody can ever top them. Rose garden, coal miners daughter, stand by your Man, crazy, and on and on we go!! This was probably the best one yet, for country.I loved it, seems appropriate. Thank you Ray for putting this medley together. It was outstanding!! Can’t say enough good things.

      Thank you, Sandy 🥰
This medley was a lot of fun to put together, that’s for sure. I’m seriously thinking about playing country music medleys twice a week instead of just Thursday.
By the way, you are a JOY!

  5. Fred

Ray this poor girl being a coal minors daughter and her daddy worked all night long and her mother used a washboard and we think we have it bad!! But she did get to go back home again!! Can you imagine the angels that watched over us?? They had to be wild what else could it have been! And by the way you did promise me a rose garden you better look before you leap!! And I know you’ve been sleeping in double bed!! At least you had all the covers!! Oh well it’s the same old story you just play me a bunch of songs that I love and think you can get away with it!! Ray I must beg your pardon but what does standing by my man have anything to do with having to sleep alone in my bed!! Sometimes I feel like throwing a steel guitar at you!! After all I am just a man! And I do you use that lighthouse so I don’t fall in that deep water! That poor ship in the wind it will make it in! But they have to finish the auction they are going once going twice! So deep in my heart I put in a bid!! I must be crazy Ray I’m crazy that my love would hold !! At least we get together once In awhile!! Oh now you put in that guitar you know how much I love that!! Oh ya you did put in a touch of sun!! I must say Ray I was crazy in love with this!! Love ya!!

Ray it is just fun for me and I love the way you put these songs in the order you do!! And if it makes people happy that’s a bonus! You are a genius at this!! We all look foward to see what you come up with next!! love ya

    1. Ray (Post author)

Well, my friend, we both do what we do for the same reason. I do appreciate your kind words. 🥰

  7. Pat Conant

WOW, this medley was just fantastic! Another one I will listen to again and again. I saw Tammy Wynette and George Jones at the Champlain Valley Fair shortly after Stand By Your Man hit #1. We also saw them at The Lincoln Inn after the concert!! They had just gotten married & were trying to get their band to leave. The band members were happily drinking beer and in no rush to leave. Anyhow I remember at the time that womens libbers were not happy with Tammy’s song.

    1. Ray (Post author)

When I added Tammy’s song to the medley, I was thinking that her lyrics probably wouldn’t go over well today.

  8. Penny

Ray .. again a marvelous country medley with some of the most amazing and powerful female voices to grace country music!!
Brightened my day as you always do!
Rock on and have a great night my friend!

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thank you, Penny. 🥰
I didn’t think I could go wrong with those eight. Amazing and powerful is right.
      Have a wonderful evening.
