It’s Friday and that means it’s time for me to send you rockin’ into the weekend!
Today the focus is the spring of 1965 and the sounds that were playing on the radio. There are 4 acts from the U.S., 4 from England, one from Canada, and another from Australia. Yep, it’s an international medley!
Rock Factoid: Bob Dylan’s song was his first Top 40 hit in the United States, peaking at number 39 on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition, the song was used in one of the first “modern” promotional film clips, the forerunner of what was later known as the music video.
Rock Factoid #2: The record label for Chad Allan & The Expressions disguised their single by crediting it to “Guess Who?” as a publicity stunt to generate speculation that it was by a famous British Invasion band working incognito.
The band’s actual name was revealed a few months later, but radio DJs continued to announce the artist as “Guess Who?”. This prompted the group to change their name to The Guess Who after Allan left and was replaced by Burton Cummings.

“Eight days a week” I will remember going to the movies with Sherry, Alanna & Angie & “this (won’t) be the last time. Wondering, was the “wooly bully” Scottish? “I’m telling you now” “there’s a new world somewhere.” “Please let me” “lookout” & “don’t follow the leaders.” “Let’s contemplate” that using contemplate got me teased about using Springfield words in the early 70’s & we were probably “shivering” when Doris & I got to my car (it was raining) after seeing the Guess Who in the 80’s. Thanks Ray & a good day to all 🙂
Excellent, Lee! 🥰
I always love the way you wrap personal memories into your comments. 🙂
How these songs remind me of that garage band the invaders!! This won’t be the last time you bring me back!! Ray this isn’t a sham is it?? What the heck is a woolly bully? must’ve been bad they wanted to shoot it.. Maybe I’m dreaming but I feel like I’m in a new land and I know I’ll never find another you!! I’m trying to figure out if I’m to guess who or if you will let me know not to jump down a manhole it’s kind of mind bending! I forgot how to play the game of love I guess that’s why I’m shaking all over and I kind of like it!! I know this won’t be the last time you bring back to a fun time!! Maybe I’ll learn how to 🕺 so I guess the thing to do is to close out as always love ya!!
Thanks, Fred!
The Invaders were all over that medley and YOU are exactly who I was thinking about when I put it together.
As always, your song summary nailed it!
To answer your question (and Rosa-Lee’s), Sam based the song title on the 1962 song Hully Gully Now by Big Bo and The Arrows. Both are fast blues stomps but Sam made it Tex-Mex with his groove and organ hook. He did, however, keep Bo’s “watch it now, watch it now” in his version.
Love Ya!
This was a great way to start Friday and end up the work week for all of you working folks! They should’ve made you set up and take notice. Gosh I had forgotten how jumpy and JB this music was! Loved it thought it was really entertaining to hear all these things again after so many years. Thank you Ray this was certainly one of your top ones for 1965! You’re the best!
Thanks, Sandy 🥰
If it got you moving, then I succeeded! 🙂
Had a hard time opening this…not you, probably moi…bad operator
I’m glad I persevered, because I was Shaking All Over! 🎶
Thanks for listening, Mary Helen 🙂
When you move in right up close to me
That’s when I get the chills all over me
What a great upbeat medley for this Friday!! My day started off crappy and kind of went downhill from there … LOL This medley helped level me and will replay to get through rest of the day! 🙂
Have a wonderful day and weekend my friend!
Thanks, Penny 🥰
I’m sorry your day started out on a down note but I’m very happy the music helped to get you headed in the other direction.
