Female Country Singers

It’s Thursday so that means it’s time for another set of country music songs. This week the medley is focused on female singers who became superstars of the genre.

There will undoubtedly be a few “what about ___?” comments but to them, I can only say this is just the first in what will be a long number of medleys. If your favorite artists isn’t included in this week’s medley, hold on, they’ll be here in the coming weeks.

Wow, what a line up today! Big names, big voices, big hair, it’s all here. Country Music has always produced powerful female artists. Some of, actually all of these ladies, have been criticized for being so popular that they turned into “cross over artists “. I think that is unfair. If their music is universally appreciated, it is a credit to their talent. Country fans are fiercely loyal to their favorite artists and the proof of that is the longevity of these artist’s careers. Wonderful set today, I love Country Thursdays!

Thanks, Don. As usual, you cut to the chase and summarized it all so very well.
      Talent Is Talent!

Thursdays are better now Ray …. starting off with a set of country tunes is great – yes there are so many … good that they have a regular spot in the week.

Country went from “twangy” to the heart and soul of the Country …. love it. Thanks for making days brighter for us.

Thank you, Barbara. I’ve had a couple of requests to set aside an additional day for country music, but my primary focus has been, and will be, rock and roll oldies from the 50s, 60s and 70s. I’m very willing to set aside Thursdays for country music, though, and I’m happy people are enjoying it.

    Home run!
Loved the voices, but more importantly the impact these women had in expanding the genre to pop crossover. They created a whole new group of fans that came to appreciate the story telling of country music.

Thanks, Mary Helen. There’s plenty more coming up in the weeks ahead!

Absolutely loved this country medley, a female artists who have had big careers! They’ve all got beautiful voices in their own way. I guess my favorite song on here is Faith Hill’s breathe, and Reba McEntire, she did such a great job with fancy. Of course no one could ever beat Dolly Parton, who may have the longest career of all. They were all dynamos and still are. There are a lot of old country that haven’t been done yet and I am waiting for those next Thursday. I am very happy with the choices that you made, and I loved every note that was sung! Thanks Ray for another hit medley! You are the best! Be❤️🎶

      Thanks, Sandy 🥰
Next week I will be going back to “the guys” for music that is slightly older and then returning to the females for older music the following week.
I am so glad you enjoyed this! ❤️

Ray, An outstanding selection! And “We’ll always love you” for putting these medleys together for us! As always, it’s enjoyable, brings back so many memories of a simpler time, and is pure enjoyment. God Bless you!, 🙏👍💯❤️

Peter, thank you so much for your heartwarming comments. Creating these medleys is my pleasure and comments like yours makes the effort very worthwhile.
God Bless you, my friend. ❤️

Great medley to showcase women of country! I have always thought that female artists no matter the genre had always been short changed, country music no exception. There have been great strides in the last few decades and a ways to go. These women show what a great talent pool of women there is – I love them all! I am amazed at how many people think Whitney Houston is the one who came out with “I will always love you”, granted she did a fabulous job with it BUT nobody can do it like Dolly! Hell, I doubt there are many who know the story behind why Dolly wrote this song in the first place.
Am at almost 40 hours for the week and still have a day to go, so is off to bed for me! Stay safe and warm my friend and have a great evening!

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thanks, Penny ❤️
I’ll bet you’re referring to Dolly’s song being written as a farewell to Porter Wagoner. I have always liked Dolly’s version much better than Whitney’s.
      I hope you’re sleeping like a baby. ❤️

Didn’t get a chance to comment yesterday but love all these Ladies. “I Will Always Love You”, is one of the best songs ever written in my opinion.

I agree with you, Pat/ It was so, so heartfelt 🥰
