Another Retro Top 10

Ten days ago, I posted the Top 10 songs for February 11, 1962. Today I am doing the same thing for February 21, 1965. Once again, I’m playing them in reverse chronological order … #10 first and all the way down to the #1 song in America 57 years ago today!

The innocence of three years earlier had faded away and the lyrical content of these songs showed that, although it was a far cry from what was coming.

I do want to point out that one song (The Kingsmen) may hold the record for the worst production in Top 10 history. There is virtually no way to clean up the mess they made.

Welcome to Monday Ray …. and any day is always a bit better when the music of the 60’s is playing! It’s always so interesting to listen and remember the dramatic and instant change the British invasion made to music. There was almost a sense of urgency in the music and you notice it quickly when you listen to pre and post. Gives us a bit of insight into where we were at the time … thanks for always incorporating a bit of history into the music … think spring my friend …. it’s time … and thanks for getting us through the cold and bleak days of winter.

      Thanks, Barbara 🙂
The “sense of urgency” is a very apt description!
I’m happy you enjoyed the music.
      ROCK THE DAY!

As always, thanks for the music. Really didn’t remember the Kingsmen’s green giant song but the way it was done reminded me of one of my favorite movies “Adventures in Babysitting.” The babysitter & the kids she’s watching are fleeing from bad people & run on to a stage where they are stopped by a musician who tells them “no body leaves here without singing the blues.” Maybe the Kingsmen were trying out a bluesy beat in a comedic song. One of my favorite characters in the above movie was the car thief, he had a great smile. The #1 song will always remind me of our class mate Gary Lewis singing it with a big flashing plastic ring in the camp talent show we worked at. So today I probably smiled for all the wrong reasons but the music & mem0ries did made me smile. 🙂

      Thanks, Lee 🙂
Not remembering The Jolly Green Giant is something most of us would be happy about.
      Terrific Gary Lewis memory! 🙂

    Zombies and Temptations my faves
Hard to believe Gary Lewis beat out Righteous Bros for #1

You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’ had been #1 for two weeks but This Diamond Ring took over the top spot on this date. 🙂

You appear to have a special gift for coming up with a very clever wordplay on songs … and I love it!

  8. Sandy Gaither

Oh my gosh I love the 60s so much! And I think the thing I love the most about them is that the songs actually did still have some good meaning and the groups that sang we’re so harmonious almost all of them, like the Temptations the righteous Brothers and Gary Lewis and the playboys. These just always strike a chord with me. Thanks for a real treat, may go back and play this one again. Not sure how I missed it yesterday. I guess there was just too much going on here.

      Thanks, Sandy 🥰
So glad you enjoyed this one! I always refer to 60s songs as a time when “music was still music” 🙂
