“Something Different” Medley

Something a little different today. Okay, something a lot different.

There’s no rock and roll in this medley, unless you count Don’t Rock The Jukebox.

It’s all country and it’s all Alan Jackson … with a special appearance by Jimmy Buffett!

Wow, what a nice surprise! Alan Jackson always presents as a regular guy, with a solid moral character. His relaxed manner and sincere delivery make every song so relatable. He is your best friend on the radio. His songs tell a small story about an everyday event, each of them just warms your heart. He writes of family, love, God and daily life. If I could only have two artists in my record collection it would be Alan and George Strait. (and Toby Kieth & Trace Adkins. I was never good at math, oh yeah Ray Davies) Today you included all my favorites. I could literally listen to him all day. If you repeated tomorrow with more Alan, that’s fine with me.

Great commentary, Don! I agree wholeheartedly, Alan Jackson is the All-American man. There is nothing pretentious about him, and I too could listen to him all day. So glad you enjoyed it!

Well, well, Don. I was very surprised by your comments today. I had thought you were a diehard rocker!! Loved what you had to say. Alan Jackson is one of the best.

Don is always full of surprises, Donna 🙂

Hi Pat, I am happy it was a pleasant surprise. In the ‘90s I was very unhappy with where mainstream rock was going. I found traditional Country was what truly spoke to me. The “New Traditionalists “ or the “Hat Acts” told the stories I wanted to hear. Sadly, much of country is now very Pop. Alan, George, Toby & Trace represent what I love about Country.

What a wonderful change of pace! My very favorite in the whole world is country western. I have always loved Alan Jackson, and have many of his songs in my collection. I think the one thing about country, that some of us may forget, is that it tells a story. Every song can strike a chord! I love this! Another favorite of mine is Garth Brooks. I could go on and on but I’ll stop here. This was a beautiful change and I hope one that will continue. Thanks Ray!

      Thank you, Sandy 🥰
Just as people say you can’t go wrong playing the Beatles, I think the same holds true for Alan. He is a master storyteller.
Rest assured I will be playing Garth and a whole lot more in the future. In fact, I’m thinking of creating a country music medley every Thursday! 🙂

I knew some Alan Jackson, but this was a revelation. Country is always stories from the heart set to music.
I love Doo wop, unique voices like Cash, Orbison, Mathis, Lang, Harris, Ronstadt, Young
    Love Motown
From my college days love the Byrds, Traffic, Crosby Stills, Dylan, Eagles
    Instrumentalists King, Santana, Benson, Davis
Love all genres and music always lifts me up.
Thanks for helping us appreciate music not in our wheelhouse

Thanks, Mary Helen … thanks for the wonderful comments and thank you for being willing to listen to music you weren’t familiar with. 🥰
I have taken note of your suggestions and I’ll be fitting them all in throughout the coming weeks.

Ray this could not have been a better choice!! Alan is one of the best there is!! I could listen to him every day!! What a story teller!! I was so sad when he said he has CMT!! There is no cure for this and it is so sad however he said he is still going to keep touring!! This man has been married for 41 years and that is unheard of these days!! He just warms my heart and his music tells such great stories!! Remember When brings tears to my eyes(I’m on my third time)His wife and daughters are in this!! Please don’t take this wrong Ray I love the Beatles but I got to tell you Alan tops my heart and I could be happy not hearing them for a long time when you play music like this!! I’m on my 3rd time around what a wonderful change!! I swear you read my mind some days!! Stay warm love ya and thankyou for such a wonderful choice!!

Fred, help me out here, what is CMT? Sounds serious.
      Thanks,
      Don

Don, Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease is an inherited nerve problem. It causes abnormalities in the nerves that supply your feet, legs, hands, and arms. It affects both your motor and sensory nerves.

        1. Don Doyle

Thank you Ray. It sounds like neuropathy. I am not familiar with it at all. I know it wasn’t Country Music Television.

      2. Fred

It is a nerve disease so he has trouble with balance etc!! Thank God it is not fatal just no cure

Thank you, Fred. I gather you enjoyed this 🙂
I was a little concerned today’s somewhat drastic change would not be welcomed but that has not been the case.
Tomorrow we’ll be taking a trip back to February 1962!
It’s up to 41 here. Spring is in the air!
      Love ya, Buddy 🥰

What a great medley and surprise!! I grew up on country, Johnny Cash, Merl Haggard and one of my dad’s favorite, Waylon Jennings. What a great set by Alan Jackson, one of the rare breed of true country Not only is Alan a great singer, he also writes songs and you can tell they are from the heart. Sadly the country today is not what it used to be.
    Thank you Ray!!

      Thank you, Penny 🥰
I will put your suggestions on my country music list!
A totally agree on Alan Jackson. 🥰

This was a great medley today, Ray. Glad to hear country might be on every Thursday. “Remember When” is one of my very favorites. Having been with my husband for over 50 years & married for 47, this song really touches my heart. Thanks for all you do, Ray.

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thank you, Pat 🥰
I’m so glad that song holds a special meaning for you.
Country will definitely be on every Thursday 🥰

Alan Jackson sings for all us regular Joes. He sings from his soul. One of the best story tellers ever! A true patriotic American. Apple pies and the American flag, God and country, family and love…all his songs apply to all of us. I love how he brings back memories of our childhood even though we had different backgrounds. An American icon! Thanks to you and Alan. Always helping us to remember when.
