Things Changed On This Date

On February 7, 1964, thousands of screaming girls met The Beatles when they arrived at JFK Airport in New York City. The group had reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 a week earlier with I Want To Hold Your Hand.

After listening to today’s medley, it might be easy to see why the “Fab Four” were such a hot commodity. I am not suggesting the songs included in the medley were “bad” songs – okay, some of them were – but the banality of the music on the Billboard Hot 100 was in such a sad state that every song in this medley was in the Top 20 fifty-eight years ago today.

These were good tunes for the times….but man, oh man, the Beatles brought the adrenaline and energy! How cool to hear some of what you all were listening to just before Beatlemania arrived! Great idea for a medley! Thanks for the perspective. 🙂 XOXOXOXO 🙂

      Thanks, Wendyl. ❤️
I cringe when I listen to some of those songs. The radio airwaves weren’t exactly scintillating before THEY showed up. They really did change everything.

Thank, Fred. Nicely done, as usual!
I agree 1964 was a better year, but in my humble opinion, it only got better after America started paying attention to the British artists. 🙂
      More snow coming tonight!
      Love Ya!

I know these aren’t your favorites and maybe they weren’t the greatest but I like them….however was a big fan of the Beatles!

      Thank you, Donna 🥰
I enjoyed music before The Beatles, don’t get me wrong, but I didn’t get obsessed with rock and roll until I heard the Fab Four. As for today’s songs, if I never hear Popsicles and Icicles, Daisy Petal Pickin’ and Hooka Tooka ever again, I’ll be just fine. 😉

Well that was certainly different and to try to think back to those days is mind boggling sometimes! I agree that the Beatles sure did set the world on fire, and changed music in history forever, with their music and their magic. They had magnetic personalities and the world loved them. I know I did and still do. When I lived in California one of the cars that I owned, a BMW Z4, with a soft top was broken into and the things that were taken are absolutely so poignant. They took my registration, causing a DMV trip, and make up bag full of make up, and a bundle of CDs including my complete set of the Beatles. That was my biggest loss, and I’ve never forgotten it obviously! Lol this was fun Ray

      Thank you, Sandy 🥰
The pre-Beatles days were not inspiring to me. To be sure, there were a lot of great songs before the British Invasion started, but in general, a lot of it sounds so, what’s the word, “un-rock and roll-ish” to me.
Now, I am envious that you owned a BMW Z4, but I’m so sorry you lost those CDs … and the make up! 😉

A couple of these were familiar, a few others not so much and after the day I had mostly seemed to want to put me to sleep .. – doesn’t make one want to jump up and dance. 🙂

Many of those songs were the perfect cure for insomnia, Penny. 🙂
I promise you dance music tomorrow!
      Stay Safe 🥰
