The Beach Boys to my mind are the best representation of being a teen & growing up that you could ever ask for. Hot Rods, Girl’s, self doubt they dealt with it all and very well. I was able to see myself in their songs. Ray, as you know, I have recently read both Mike Love and Brian Wilson’s autobiographies. I know that most fans are either in one camp or the other, not me. I like to think that the music is so much more important then the personalities. For anyone who is interested, Mike’s book is more traditional, a straightforward history of the group, with lots of background on the songs. Brian’s book is an honest attempt explain his life with all it’s trials and tribulations. I recommend them both. Thank you Ray for bringing the heat on a cold winter day. Some “California Dreaming” will help us all get through this bitter winter.

Don, thanks for the comments. I recall you were a big fan of the early days (surfing, girls, hot rods, etc.) so I’m glad these songs brought back some nice memories. Thanks also for the book reviews as it may inspire people to check them out.
      Rock On!

Ah, the sun and warm beachy breezes are keeping me toasty this morning! You are so sweet to include one of those songs along with all the classics! Did you think I wouldn’t notice? I wouldn’t hurt you like that, no, no, no! Stay warm and thanks for the great tunes and lots of smiles! 🙂 XOXOXOXO 🙂

Of course I thought you would notice, Wendy. ❤️ Besides, it is a classic, too (and so are you).
Stay warm on this frigid day!
      ❤️XOXOXOXO❤️

What a perfect antidote for our freezing weather! Brought me right back to the summers of my youth. The songwriting genius of, Brian Wilson….wow. No other words.

Thanks, Pat. Brian Wilson had no Amrican peer in the Sixties. End of discussion.

Beach boys!!! Oh how I just love this group, used to listen to them on almost every single morning commute to work. To me they are the a pitta me of the classic surfing songs from California. Others tried to imitate but could never quite match that melding of voices! I just about probably wore out a CD of the Beach boys but I do still have it. Thank you for choosing some of the songs that you did, I’ve always loved this group I got so excited when I saw this was your selection for today! Thank you Ray this is entertaining and fun!

Sandy, it is your comments that are fun. You have such enthusiasm! ❤️

I like Don liked the music and really didn’t care about the personality stuff!! They had such a unique sound that for me was just fun!! And first gear was alright!! I knew you would sneak Wendy in there!! When I grow up to be a man!! Ray I don’t want to grow up!! All the lyrics have always made me smile!! So if you don’t mind I think I’ll go home as it is 77 degrees here!! So now I wanna go to the beach!! Stay warm love ya!! Great choices this am!!

Fred, their harmony arrangements were out of this world. All those years of Brian listening to the Four Freshmen and adopting their harmony arrangements paid off.
Of course I put Wendy in there! I would be a lousy father if I didn’t! 🙂
So it’s 77 there? It is noon up and here and it is a steamy 13 degrees!
      Stay Cool … Love Ya!

Oh those summertime memories. Can’t wait for warm weather, but the music helps to pass the time & dream of summer.

    1. Ray (Post author)

That was the plan, Pat. 🙂 I warmed up just putting it together! 😂

  7. Penny

What a great medley to remind us summer is right around the corner .. sort of 🙂 Love the Beach Boys .. they have such upbeat songs that you want to just get up and dance (for those who can dance)
Now if it would just warm up!!

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thanks, Penny 🥰
“America’s Band” gave us some terrific music in the 60s and 70s.
It will get warm … someday, I hope!

Wore out a lot of vinyl listening to these guys!
Because of the genre they created I’m not sure they got the recognition they deserved as musicians. They adapted and changed and have had a long run
Don’t remember “Wendy”…inspiration for your daughter’s name? Or was it Peter Pan?

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thank you, Mary Helen. 🥰
Wendy was named after Wendy Chapman, a classmate of my first wife.

I listened tonight as I cuddled up under the quilts and blankets. Closing my eyes, this music took me back to the A&W, being a self- doubting teen and all that entailed! Loved the Beach Boys harmony. Thanks, Ray! Warms the heart….

Thank you, Terry, not only for taking the time to comment, but also for the A&W memory. Those were indeed days of fun times but I can relate to the self-doubt. As for the Beach Boys’ harmonies, it’s difficult to find another group that did it better.
