Talking To Freddy!

Back in September 2007, the Heather & Ray Show had a very special guest. Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon joined us for a fascinating nearly 30-minute interview. He reminisced about the highlights of his recording career, and get this, near the end of the interview, Freddy joined me in a song for Heather. Yep, Mr. Cannon and I sang together!

What a great interview!! I could also tell that being on the air was “home” for you …… you were / are awesome!

      Thank you, Penny ❤️
Radio was never a “job” for both Heather or me. It was two people, very close friends from 1956 on, playing music and talking to each other for any listener’s entertainment. It could get very silly at times, but there were many, many instances when we could get very serious, such as food drives and Race For The Cure events.
I Loved Every Second Of It. ❤️

Now that was a treat! It was so unexpected. Thank you Ray for a big, wonderful surprise. I have always liked Freddy Cannon and I have a story for you. I was about 11 years old and was in downtown Philadelphia. I was walking down the street in the old part of Center City near Independence Hall. I notice a tall thin guy, dressed real sharp, walking toward me. I thought he looked familiar and then it clicked, FREDDY CANNON! Of course I didn’t approach him, or speak to him but I was stunned. He was my first celebrity sighting! Here was a guy who I saw on TV, walking down the street. I never forgot that and no one ever believed me. Now today I hear your interview and find out he lived in Philadelphia. I am vindicated, at last 60 years later. Thanks Ray for reviving that memory for me.

Mr. Boom Boom Guilmette, I am very pleased that you enjoyed it. 🙂
As Heather said elsewhere, it really was like chatting with an old friend. Hard to believe he will be 85 on December 4th.
And I sang with him! That was a short thrill but a forever memory.
I’ll catch you later, Way Down Yonder in New Orleans!
