It’s 1959 Again!

I have already promised that Christmas medleys will begin tomorrow so I sat here and wondered what I was going to play today

Recently I played a selection of Fifties songs and the response was wonderful. And so I decided to make the last rock and roll medley before I bring on Christmas a celebration of the artists from 1959!

Just close your eyes, listen, and imagine you’re back in that special year!

Ricky Nelson – Frankie Avalon
Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon – Eddie Cochran
Johnny Horton – Jackie Wilson

Good morning, Ray. Today is a nice representation of traditional Rock before the rise of the Singer/Songwriter and the British Invasion. Very direct, straightforward, simple Rock. I am happy to see Freddy Boom Boom Cannon & Johnny Horton included. Both of these performers could bring a smile to your face every time you heard them. Of course Elvis had to be included, The King. Once again you have brought back youthful memories in a way only music can do. Thank you Ray for working your magic again today. On to Christmas!

      Thank you, Don.
Well, I couldn’t do 1959 and leave Elvis out. 🙂
Heather and I had the pleasure of interviewing “Boom Boom” about 20 years ago. He was an incredible guest, sharing memories of his days in New England.
You’re right about 1959 music. There were no “message” songs. It was just all about rock and roll.
ROCK ON, BRO (and yeash, get ready for Christmas)!

Ray you do realize I have to use oxygen as soon as I heard “Boom Boom I had to crank it up!! Didn’t you and Heather have the pleasure of interviewing him?? Would that be a blast if you had that recorded!! That’s all I need!! I think Don said it was simple rock and I agree however for me that’s what makes these songs so great!! And who is this person called Elvis!!! Great way to end with the King!! Nancy is getting better and I really enjoyed today’s tunes!! Love ya!!

      Thank you, Fred. 🙂
I actually DO have a recording of that interview. It’s tucked away inside one of the several boxes of memories I have laying around. I will have to dig it out.
Thanks for the positive Nancy update and thank you so much for enjoying the tunes!
Love you guys so much! ❤️

Another great medley (no surprise there) for another great year!! Can’t go wrong with any of these artists – they are all awesome and their music will stand the test of time. I agree with what Freddy Cannon said in your interview – Music from the 50’s, 60’s and even into the 70’s have what it takes to stand the test of time whereas a lot of music now (some you can’t even call music) won’t. 50 – 100 years from now people will know who Elvis Presley was but not a clue who Travis Scott is (personally I think he is a joke and evil .. just my opinion) Rock on you dear man and have a wonderful day!

      Another fantabulous commentary, Penny! ❤️
The test of time will not, in my opinion, have many nice things to say about today’s musicians.

Holy moly!! This was fabulous I actually just cleaned up my entire kitchen, while listening to it not once but twice. I just loved all the songs. It was such a thrilling time when you go back to the chronological order of things, and you realize what giant impact this era had on music worldwide. Gosh I just loved every single second. Thank you so much for this, and I still plan to listen to the Freddy Cannon interview because God in heaven who could miss that? I started listening but got interrupted and never did get back to it but today at some point, I will have that thrill. You did an outstanding job on this one. Thank you so much Ray, you’re the best!

Thanks, Sandy. I enjoyed putting that medley together. It was such a fabulous era!
As for the Freddy Cannon interview, asking Freddy to join me in singing the Heather Weather intro (and having him accept the invitation) was a career highlight or me!
By the way, YOU are the best! ❤️
