9/11 Radio Memories

On September 11, 2006, the ‘Heather & Ray Show‘ was a far cry from our usual three hours of great oldies and a lot of laughs.
It was on that date that we focused all of our attention on the terrible events of five years earlier. That meant our normal 3-hour show extended to almost 5 hours in length and it was filled with news bulletins and the music that match the somber mood.
For the past fifteen years, I have only played about six minutes of that entire program on this date. Today, on the 20th anniversary of 9/11, I am playing it all.
Do I expect you to listen to the entire show? Of course not but it is here should you decide to listen as much or as little as you want.

Thank you, Fred. I believe that program was Heather’s finest moments. I can clearly recall how heartbroken she was that day but her calm voice never faltered.

Listening to most of this today has humbled me and brought me back 20 years like nearly no time had passed at all. My heart is heavy but it isn’t possible to remember, to never forget, without feeling these feelings. I also am so honored to have this moment in history, this radio show with you and Heather in your element, available to experience in its entirety. I love you!

      Thank you, Wendyl ❤️
9/11/2001 was a day none of us will ever forget.
9/11/2006 was a day I count as my proudest day on the radio. Forget all of the countless sports broadcasts and the Hall of Fame induction. They were all wonderful but the incredible amount of time spent putting that 2006 program sound bites together and then doing the whole show in real time beats them all … and yes, Heather really was in her element.

So well expressed Ray and Heather. You depicted our collective pain so well. Poignant,

As Fred said “No Words” can express my feelings, after listening to your entire show. And I do believe this was your’s and Heather’s finest moment. For the first time in many years, I actually watched the reading of the names on Saturday morning. I have never forgotten, but it has been pushed to the back of my mind. With what has gone on the last few weeks this has come back , like it was yesterday. The music that you included was so poignant, that I was crying as I listened. Please God bring this country back together and GOD BLESS THE USA AGAIN.

      Thank you, Pat. ❤️
I can tell you that it was definitely the most difficult show we ever did, and as I listened to it 15 years later, the emotions felt by both Heather and me that day brought tears to my eyes. Your very beautiful comments made it all worth the effort we put into it.
There were times this weekend that the events of 9/11/2001 did feel very fresh, and that brought back the same feelings I felt that fateful and horrible day. There was anger, a lot of it, but at the same time, I remembered the unity we all felt as strangers held hands and vowed we would never ever forget.
Today, we are as divided as I can ever recall in my lifetime. I truly believe only God can bring us back together … if only we are open to His love.
