A Double Shot of Memories

Welcome to Ray’s Retro Diner where Wednesday is always Doo-Wop Day … and this week it’s going to be that and more!

It occurred to me that by playing only Doo-Wop music every Wednesday, I was ignoring a lot of wonderful early rock and roll from the Fifties. Today I am going to correct that.

There are two mini-medleys on the menu; one from those early days of rock and roll along with another from the Doo-Wop era. Soak up the memories!

Good Morning, Ray. A Double Shot! It’s early for all this excitement. Whenever the origins of Rock is discussed, these guys are mentioned as the Fathers of the movement. Bill Haley, a local boy, started things off with lots of energy both in his playing and stage act. Just listen to the guitar work, now that’s setting the bar pretty high. Speaking of energy Chuck Berry took that energy and doubled it. Playing, singing and “duck walking” all over the stage, while telling some of the best stories of teen life in his songs. The length of his career speaks volumes about the universality of his talent. Did someone say energy? Little Richard & Jerry Lee abused the piano in ways no one could ever imagine. They banged those 88s non stop. Piano teachers all over the world were horrified. Elvis, Elvis, Elvis. He is the King no argument here. He had the look, the voice and the moves. He was so dangerous you could not photograph his whole body when he performed on TV!
I’m worn out and didn’t even get to the Doo Wop. Another great selection. I even dreamed of Doo Wop last night and knew you would include the Rays in today’s show. See Ray you made my dreams come true. Thank you for another day of great music. You Rock!

      Thanks, Don.
These were two medleys that were so much fun to create (and I loved creating that image)! The 50s rock medley brought me back to my roots.
      ROCK ON, BRO!

Well a new Diner!! With this music you don’t need coffee!! It seems like yesterday we were rockin to these tunes!! The 50’s had such great bands and the dance moves were also fun!! Now the Doo Wap is still one of the most fun for me!! The musicality for me seems so pure. I just close my eyes and start singing along!! And the stories they tell are just so fun! And I bet you will be one of those silohouettes on the shade!! Stay warm, stay safe and I’ll keep coming to this wonderful Diner and think back of the fond memories we have shared!
