I’ll keep this short. Tuesday is the day we go back to the 1960s and rock and roll memories from Britain … so let’s get to it!

A 1960s British Medley
Dave Clark Five – Beatles – Searchers
Ian Whitcomb & Bluesville – Peter & Gordon
Kinks – Rolling Stones – The Who
Goog morning, Ray. Looks like you have rounded up the usual suspects for todayβs medley. You can recognize the Dave Clark Five had an easily identifiable sound that was happy & bouncy. They had a nice run before they flamed out. The Beatles were producing tight, direct, air friendly melodies with infectious harmonies that we could never get enough of. As soon as one of their LPs came out, everyone was clamoring for the next one. No one can compare to the Kinks. They got our attention with their loud innovative playing and spent the rest of their career educating us on the life and customs of their native land. The stories that Ray Davies told were unique and nostalgic at the same time. Go Britannia! This period of the Stones has been my favorite for a long time. The Who, loud, unapologetic and in your face, what more could you ask of a Rock & Roll band? Turn it up until you ears bleed. Pete Townsend turned it up and sacrificed his own eardrums for us. Long live Rock & Roll! Thanks Ray.
Thanks, Don.
It’s always safe to play the usual suspects” with well known songs from that time period. I left out the Animals because I just did a medley of their songs, and after compiling the eight I did choose, I was already (slightly) over the 20-minute self-imposed rule. If not for that, I could have added the Hollies, Mindbenders, Yardbirds, Cream, Fortunes, and my personal favorite, Status Quo.
Because Quo only had one Top 40 hit in America but over 60 in the UK (and I am adamant about not playing songs most Americans don’t remember), the odds of any of their music, other than Pictures of Matchstick Men, ever being played on this site again are very, very slim.
ROCK ON, BRO!
I definitely did sing along, quietly so as to not wake anyone but yes! Though I wasn’t around in the 60s, I must’ve paid close attention in the 70s when I heard, and grew to love, all of these songs! Absolutely fantastic! Nice one, cheers and much obliged! <<<Trying to sound like a proper Brit! π XOXOXOXO π
Cheerio, Wendyl! π
As always, I am very happy you enjoyed the songs we listened to together back in the “good old days”.
Stay Safe today!
