Another All American Medley

So here we are. A new week and a very slightly different approach to YOUR memories.

Mondays will still feature American artists from the 1960s but there will be no more “deep cuts” or “Forgotten 45s”. From now on, I can promise you there will be nothing but hit songs that everyone remembers because the whole idea behind these medleys is to remind you of all the great music you heard growing up.

Good morning, Ray. The Mamas & Papas brought a new, fresh sound. Their harmonies took the concept of a duet and blew it up in a most pleasant way. Who knew we were ready for that? John Phillips was one great songwriter! The Byrds hit the ground running. Roger, (Jim), McGuinn introduced me to the sound of the 12 string guitar and I have loved the sound ever since. As a Rock & Roller, who also loved Folk music, I was still surprised to hear a biblical verse coming out of my transistor radio. Now Ricky Nelson was in my living room each week on his Mom & Dad’s TV show. What a great treat. Certainly it gave his talent the exposure you need to launch a career. I admired how he grew up right in front of us and how he grew musically. His work with the Stone Canyon Band is exceptional. Another great who passed way to soon. The Dovells, another Philly group that made us proud and were a mainstay at all the local record hops. Len Barry even had success as a solo artist. Mary Wells, what a voice! I could listen to her all day. I could be wrong but I never thought she got the credit she so well deserves. Well she will always be #1 in my book. The Crystals, Phil Spector was so hot everything he produced was red hot. Unfortunately he was also super controlling, which severely limited the artists associated with him. The Big sound of the Crystals lit up the radio, but not often enough. Nice work Ray. Only 992 memories to go.

Another great commentary on the songs … and you’re not wrong about Mary Wells. She was a very underrated singer!
      ROCK ON, BRO!

Monday, Monday-oh what a day, after Tom Brady wins his seventh Super Bowl, to hear all these great songs, and have all these great memories!! Played Dale & Grace’s song on the juke box & got my boyfriend back years & years ago, LOL. Like Don, watched the Nelson family every week to See Ricky singing to end the show, and love Mary Wells’s voice. Thanks again, Ray for all these music memories.

Another wonderful set to start the week, have listened to it a few times already 🙂 A line sticks out from one of the songs and right now I am brain fried and can’t remember which one …… A TIME FOR PEACE – I SWEAR IT’S NOT TOO LATE!! With all going on in the world today, that is a line that can stick in our hearts and give us hope …… have a wonderful, safe and warm day my friend (now back to work for me)

      Thank you, Penny ❤️
The lyrics for Turn! Turn! Turn! are from the book of Ecclesiastes (3:1-8) with the exception of the last line (the one you mentioned), which was written by Pete Seeger.

      Pete was right.❤️
