It’s Doo-Wop Wednesday!

Another Wednesday, another Doo-Wop medley!

Although the genre is most often associated with the 1950s, several of the songs on today’s medley were recorded in the early 1960s and were Doo-Wop’s final stand against the pending British Invasion.

By the way, if you’re wondering how long these medleys will continue on Wednesday, I assure you I have hundreds more!

Good morning, Ray. Dion is a good way to start off today. His smooth voice may have started in the 50s but he continues to make good music even today. The Earls upbeat sound could always be counted on to get things going at the record hops. Little Anthony was a particular favorite of my wife so his popularity may be a little exaggerated in my memory. She played his songs over and over again and I must admit I didn’t mind. The thing about Doo Wop is that slow dances were actually looked forward to because you got to hold your partner close for about a minute and a half to two minutes. That was something that I personally looked forward to, the slow dance embrace, oh yeah. The smell of Aqua Net hair spray is pleasantly burned into my sensory memory. They should bottle that stuff but not in a spray, the EPA would have a fit. I have to be truthful here, I don’t remember all the names of the Doo Wop groups but I can never forget the songs. Well that’s not entirely true, I remember the names but can’t always match the group with the song. Ray you have now scrambled my brain for another day. Thank you, I think. Rock on!

      Thanks, Don.
Little Anthony was included because of your wife. 🙂
I’ll be honest, too. Some of the songs I have planned for next week’s Doo-Wop day feature artists I don’t recall at all. Even some of the songs are only vaguely familiar but after researching them, I discovered they were all, at the very least, moderate “hits” so they’re in!
Advance Warning: Tomorrow’s 30-minute medley focuses on the 70s but it is going to be mostly mellow. Fear not, “Anything Goes Friday” will rock your soul!
      ROCK ON, BRO!

Ray, I often wonder if some of my favorite song were local or regional hits. We have a popular DJ in the Philly area, Jerry Blavat “The Geater “. He still is on the air and still hosts popular dances. I think he played his favorites and they became so familiar to us, I assume they were big hits, maybe not. He is still Rockin’ and still playing the same tunes so they still sound good to me.
