Let’s do this one last time.
This is our fourth and final look back at legendary female voices, and this time, the focus is on singers from the 60s and 70s (and there’s even one from the 50s).
Several of these singers had so many hits it was difficult to choose just one, but I did it because my contract says I had to. π
Speaking of choosing, there is one name on the list below that will probably having you assume it’s a song about the singer’s boots. I chose instead to play my favorite song by her.
Almost forgot … I ignored the 20 +/- minute rule (slightly) because I felt like it. π

Female Voices, Part 4
Bobbie Gentry β Gladys Knight β Petula Clark
Karen Carpenter β Diana Ross β Dusty Springfield
Lesley Gore β Connie Francis β Nancy Sinatra
Ray, you rebel you! Blasting right through the 20 minute limit by 6 minutes & 57 seconds! Be still my heart!
Bobbie Gentry sang a whole mystery novel and had people scratching their heads about what went over that bridge. She did it so smoothly that people wanted more. She even got her own TV show! Gladys, with or without the Pips, has a voice that conveys such emotion you canβt stop listening. Petula Clark brought a hip, smooth sophistication across the pond and her bright voice made you want to head straight to Carnaby Street. Sweet Karen, if she only knew how her voice went straight to our hearts. So sad. Diana Ross, I think she was the inventor of the hairbrush & mirror lip syncing movement. Big hair and beautiful gowns, every day was prom night for the girls when she sang. Dusty Springfield has brought her style and talent to several styles and came out a winner in each. Lesley Gore she seems happy and in charge even though her boyfriend is always breaking her heart. I have never appreciated Connie Francis. I never could connect with her. Something is missing for me.
Nice variety today Ray. I agree you had an embarrassment of riches to deal with but you have acquitted yourself well. Being the boss is never easy but you did yourself proud. Thank you.
Thank you, Don. π
Yeah, I decided to flaunt the rules today π
I enjoyed your comments on the various singers. For all the heartbreak Lesley suffered at the hands of boyfriends in her songs, it was interesting when later in life she admitted to being a lesbian her whole life.
I was never a big Connie Francis fan but she had such a remarkably tragic life. I have always felt so much sympathy for her so I decided to include her song.
ROCK ON, BRO!
Contract???? This has been my favorite “Girls Rock” medley & Ted has listened every day ‘cept Monday when he had to follow up on paperwork undone by a Dr. since the beginning of November so I listened without him. Thank you for your awesome medleys π Lee
Thank you, Lee. π
I’m glad you enjoyed the girl medleys all week. I had a very good time putting them together.
By the way, the “contract” comment was just me having some fun. There isn’t anyone who could stand being my boss so I have to pretend I have one. π
The ladies have rocked this week and I’ve been a happy listener! Glad to hear you enjoyed putting them together and that you took some liberties with your time limits without fear of reprimand! Some people are meant to be their own boss and you are definitely one of them! Not only did I enjoy today’s selections, so did my hubby. He shared that his mom used to sing Lipstick on Your Collar. π XOXOXOXO π
Thank you, Wendyl β€οΈ
I did enjoy the last four days (a lot). I hope the “Lipstick” memory put a smile on Craig’s face.
I have to be my own boss. No one else would ever hire me! π
β€οΈXOXOXOXOβ€οΈ
