I promised that Wednesday would be rocking tunes from the 1950s from now on, so today I’m playing Christmas songs from that decade … even though some of them are not exactly “rocking”.
There are rockers in this medley, but I included a few slower favorites, such as the original recordings of treasured classics by Jimmy Durante, Rosemary Clooney and Eartha Kitt.
Full Disclosure: The medley also includes a song that was technically released in 1949, but hey, it’s Gene Autry’s iconic song so I couldn’t leave it out!

I absolutely love your choices, you choose the right artist to play to bring back child hood memories. My mother had a victrola that we where only allowed to listen to fir special occasions and those times where some of the best as far as hearing stories from my parents about their childhood experiences and about their parents. Thank you Ray I truly enjoy your music
Thank you, Victoria 🙂
So many of these songs bring back wonderful childhood memories for most of us,including ME! 🙂
My favorite I’m not getting nothing for Christmas
I absolutely love this song, I smile and giggle every time I hear it.
Thanks, Victoria, I am so glad you had the chance to smile and giggle. 😉
Good Morning Ray. Today I see you are going way back to the songs of my youth. Way before we had radio stations that play Christmas songs exclusively for a month or two. It was always a treat to hear one of these songs in between the regular tunes. I can only think of two Christmas songs I really don’t like and I am confident you will play all of them, ( just remembered a third). The first you already got out of the way, the “hippo” song. One down 2 to go.
It wouldn’t be Christmas without hearing Gene & Jimmy. I never get tired of hearing Gene Autry sing about Rudolph or Back in the Saddle Again. Jimmy Durante is about the most unlikely “singer” on the list but his distinctive voice is always welcome. The cartoon of Frosty cemented him as a Christmas icon. Earths Kitt with her scandalous requests shocked and surprised but became a standard anyway.
Well Ray you did it again, you mined the past and came up with some familiar and great tunes. Thank you for such fun memories. Rock on my Brother.
Thanks, Don.
If you think I am going to play that hideous Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer, guess again … and I hope that was the second song. If it was the Chipmunks, well, you have a problem because it’s coming tomorrow. 😉
Just so you know, I’ll be doing a Saturday medley this weekend!
ROCK ON, BRO!
Nope, I love the chipmunks. You are correct about Grandma. Only one more I need to look out for. Putting in some OT this week. I will be tuning in on Saturday.
I feel these are the Christmas standards of my youth even though I wasn’t here in the 50s…how can that be?! Oh, wait…we know the answer to that question! Thank you for gifting us this medley and for presenting ( 😉 ) these treasures to me when I was so young. I loved everything about this! 🙂 XOXOXOXO 🙂
It was my pleasure, Suzy (then and now) ❤️
XOXOXOXO
All good Ray!! Jimmy Durante nice touch!! As I recall the Moonglows had a #one hit back in the 50’s!! Thank you for playing Santa Baby Ray I mean it Sincerely!! Santa Baby has a new meaning for me!! Loved it!! Merry Christmas!!
Thank you, Sir Fred!
The inclusion of Santa Baby has been mentioned several times today, both here and on Facebook. I am, as always, happy you enjoyed it ALL!
ROCK ON, BUDDY!
Thank you Ray-
Evoked such good memories-.you presented the best of the 50’s.
Thanks, Nancy 🙂
It’s always nice to go back to our childhood Christmas memories and the music was definitely part of them.
Fun songs today! Songs we grew up with but seldom hear these days! Always make me happy and nostalgic for my innocence.
So glad to hear you feel the same way about “Grandma”. Glad we won’t be hearing it.
Will be humming all day! I want a hippopotamus for Christmas…
Nostalgia works for me, Donna, but “Grandma” never did and never will.
