(Almost) Forgotten Memories

They were all hits so why did time forget these songs? I’m not suggesting everyone has let them slip away but the fact remains you don’t hear these forgotten gems very often so we’d like to take 23 minutes to remember them.

Before someone asks why I included the “gem” from the Lemon Pipers, I’ll tell you why. It spent five weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and seven weeks on the Cash Box Top 100. πŸ™‚

Ray; Ray; Ray what are you doing here? I remember why most of these songs were forgotten , they should be! Nothing against J. Giles or CS&N but they are snoozers! After suffering through those turkeys, I immediately perked right up to enjoy George & Ian only to be put back to sleep until John showed up. Man, today is a real roller coaster ride.
I have never forgotten Crackerbox Palace George is at the top of his game both lyricly and musically. His voice and guitar playing are literally music to my ears.
Ian Hunter, here is a man in his 80s who never fails to put a smile on my face. What a great talent. Mott the Hoople, solo and now with the Rant band he is like that little pink bunny that keeps going and going. He writes, sings and tours. What a pro.
Of course Johnny, the best thing to come out of the Heartland. He sings what’s on his mind and guess what, it’s on my mind too.
Also, as an old truck guy, I love the graphic! I will remember that.
Have a great weekend Ray. Enjoy your easy chair. Back to work on Sunday.
P.S. I know George was for me. Ian was a great bonus.

      Thanks, Don.
As always, I appreciate your honest and frank opinions. I included Angel In Blue because it represented a drastic change from their usual “in your face” approach … plus I love the brass and any song that has Cissy Houston singing backing vocals works for me.
Wasted On The Way has a deep personal meaning to me. I have always been struck by those lyrics; their meaning, their relevance, their beauty, their power… I’m still amazed by just how true and meaningful they are. “Look around you now/ You must go for what you wanted.”
Yes, George was for you and Ian’s song has always been a favorite. πŸ™‚
      ROCK ON, BRO

Once again I feel so fortunate to actually know all of these songs. I don’t remember how old I was when I realized not everyone had the same exposure to these treasure as I did growing up. It has been a while since I’ve heard these and it was an enjoyable trip down memory lane! πŸ™‚ XOXOXOXO
