1950s Rock Classics!

There was a time when Wednesday meant it was a day for mellow music medleys – or at least softer music.
Today’s medley blows that notion out of the water. Instead of quiet and calming music, you’re going to get 11 songs from rock pioneers of the 50s!

Yes, I know that means for some of you the music is so old, it was recorded before you were born. That’s okay because each and every single one of these songs is an honest to God classic. Without them, the music of the 60s might never have existed.
One more thing. Put on your dancing shoes before you hit play!

Good Morning Ray. So happy to see you showing Eddie Cochran some love. He seems to have been forgotten or ignored for some strange reason. If he is remembered it is always for Summertime Blues, a song I truly love in all its crazy versions from Blue Cheer to Allen Jackson. I was very young when he tragically died in London but my older brother had introduced his music to me and I remember being confused and crushed. As a teenager I was very happy when I found a double LP of his most famous songs.
Jackie Wilson, what a voice and what a live act! I saw him live about a week before he collapsed on stage. Have you heard his son? He sounds just like his Dad. Jackie is yet another singer who has been neglected by most Oldies stations. Sad.
Frankie Avalon, one of the Golden Boys from South Philadelphia. In the fifties it seemed like every corner of that neighborhood produced a Teen Idol. Philly was Hot!
Jerry Lee Lewis how often do you see a guy play the piano with his feet? ( or marry his 13 year old cousin!)
Another great trip back to the Golden Age of Rock & Roll. Thank you Ray.

      Thanks, Don.
Eddie Cochran has never been forgotten in my head. As I put this medley together, I looked at my list and thought what a shame it is that these pioneers are slipping away from the memories of too many people.
Jackie’s son sounds JUST like Dad, and that ain’t a bad thing.
I figured you would like a Philly addition in the mix. 🙂
      ROCK ON, BRO!

Never feel that it is necessary to comment if you’re in pain.
I am glad, however, that a few memories came back to life! 🙂
