I have long maintained the music from the Sixties was the best ever heard. That is not to suggest the music from the Seventies didn’t also have its moments.
Today’s medley is proof.
During the month of November 1970, no less than twenty classic albums were released, and today I am spotlighting six of them as they turn 50.
American Beauty
The Grateful Dead (Released Nov. 1)
Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs
Derek and The Dominos (Released Nov. 9)
His Band and The Street Choir

Fifty Years Old Medley
Grateful Dead – Derek and The Dominos – Van Morrison
Cat Stevens – The Kinks – George Harrison
Well Ray, you are firing on all 8 cylinders today. Wow, what a way to start the day!
I am not very well versed on the Dead, although I like this and Touch of Gray very much.
Eric Clapton can sound so very different can’t he? I am a fan of all his different styles. Surpriseingly for a guy known for his amazing guitar work, his ballads are so sweet and tender.
Cat Stevens sure surprised me by walking away from his career at the height of his popularity. I know he is on the comeback trail now.
The Kinks! One of my all time favorites. They can do no wrong as far as I’m concerned. I remember how they had to change the lyrics for Coca Cola to cherry cola. Stupid, all the free advertising they were offering to Coke.
George Harrison, to me the most interesting of the Beatles. I love all his work. Cracker Box Palace has been running through my brain for the last couple of days.
Great picks today Ray. Thank you.
Thank you, Don.
I have never been a big fan of The Grateful Dead. Truckin’, Morning Dew, and Touch Of Grey are really the only three songs I can say I liked.
Clapton’s love song to Pattie Harrison won her over. 🙂
When Stevens converted to Islam in 1977, I sincerely thought he was done and would never come back to music. Once gain, I was wrong.
I had a feeling you would enjoy the Kinks’ inclusion in the medley. 😉
We are certainly in agreement on Mr. Harrison. I’ll find a spot for Crackerbox Palace in an upcoming medley!
Has it really been 50 years??? Feels like yesterday…
Great selection of awesome songs!
Thank you, Donna. 🙂
Fifty years has gone by much too fast but the music still lives on. 🙂
