It’s Friday and I feel like throwing another rock and roll party with a long medley of hits from the Sixties!
In some cases, I’m playing signature songs by a few artists but I’m also playing some of the lesser known β but still great β charting songs by other legendary performers.
There’s a Forgotten 45 (there might actually be a few of them) with a cameo introduction by yours truly, and there’s two songs by the same singer but under different names (Hint: songs 8 and 9)
By the way, if you’re looking for slow songs, this ain’t the place to be today. π

60s Music Party
Gary Lewis & The Playboys – Bob Dylan
Monkees – Joe Jeffrey Group – Lemon Pipers
Jay & The Techniques – Kinks – Johnny Cymbal
Derek – Mamas & Papas – Manfred Mann
Nice job Ray. All really good songs today.
Gary Lewis makes me smile, always up beat. The kind of song you can listen to over and over again.
Bob Dylan is an artist that would frustrate me. I would try and try to figure out what he was talking about buy could not. I loved what I was hearing but felt stupid. I read an interview where he said he would never explain his work, it was up to the listener. Thatβs when I got it. It was free verse, just go with the flow. I can do that.
It was only recently that I read that Last Train was a Viet Nam song. Clarksville was where the solders shipped out to Nam. Heavy.
The Lemon Pipers pulled out all the studio tricks to get their sound, and it worked. Great song. Nice contrast with the songs that follow, they are so basic, A nursery rhyme, just being happy, loving the bass, oh yeah. Simple, straightforward Rock &Roll! (Thank you for the Kinks, they made me Happy!)
You got me with the Derek song. I donβt think I forgot it, I never heard it. Was it regional?
Mama Cass, what a voice.
Thanks Ray, that was fun. Have a great weekend.
Thank YOU, Don.
The Lemon Piper’s follow up songs had the same exact sound as Green Tambourine and they all flopped.
I had to include the Kinks π
That Derek song reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1969. Here’s a Rock Factoid for you. Johnny Cymbal (real name John Blair) also co-wrote Al Martino’s Mary In The Morning.
Mama Cass, what a voice indeed!
Advance Warning: Sunday is very mellow!
Have a wonderful weekend!
The Johnny Cymbal song about the bass I can see that going to # 11 but the other one? No way! What were they thinking?
Funny you mentioning Al Martino, he moved from South Philly to my town. My son in LA knows his daughter who has the Vintage LA blog.
I will check out Sundayβs blog but Iβm not making any promises.
Well Ray you know you can always count on me!! I thought when you mixed the Playboys with the Mama and Papas was going to be just a little Kinky but as always your Techniques in chosing this medly was fantastic!! And adding a Cymbal into the mix was rather interesting as I thought he was a bass man!! Ray 123 de-de-bop-a-bop sent that music a thumpin’!! I also liked hearing that radio magic man’s voice!! Rock on love it!!
Thank you, Fred!
That was excellent, as usual. Had me singing sha-la-la-la-la-la. π
ROCK ON!
WOW I had forgotten My pledge of love…great tune.
So much great music from the days of our youth π
As always thanks for the memories!
Thank you, Eileen π
I always loved that song but it slipped through the cracks and all but disappeared.
I’m glad someone else remembers it.
As always, thanks for listening!
Overslept this morning so was straight out for the next 11 hours … just now listening …. great way to end the day Ray .. Thank you
Thanks, Penny π
I hope the music perks you a little bit.
Have a super weekend! β€οΈ
I tuned in this morning and kicked my upcoming weekend into high gear! The 60s are one of my favorite decades of music, if not THE favorite! Listening again right now! Speaking of favorites, look in the mirror and find another of mine. π Super (Cheesy) Sweet but what can I say, hurray the weekend is here! Thanks for ringing it in with a 60s party! XOXOXOXO
Thanks, Wendyl β€οΈ
