Classic Hits 1961-1962

Let’s all go back (Way Back) nearly 60 years to a couple of very special years in music.

We’re playing five classic hits from 1961 in the first half of today’s medley, followed by four more classic songs (and a Forgotten 45 that reached #20) from 1962. 🙂

Well Ray, that’s a lot of energy to start the day. Who doesn’t like the amazing voice of Ben E King? One of my favorite ex Drifters. Love the street corner harmonies of Gene Chandler & the Tokens. It seemed as if every corner had its own group.
Brook Benton is someone who for the most part has been forgotten. He was a dynamic performer who made some fine music.
Nice try to put me back to sleep with Brian Hyland. It didn’t work.
Even if I was nodding off, Don Garner would surely wake me up.
I caught your mistake, this is Rickey Nelson not Rick! Come on Ray, Rick came later and you know it.
Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon now there is a LOUD guy! But in a good way. That song made everyone want to cross the bridge to Jersey. He was a true survivor who hung around for years, popping up when you least suspected.
Another fine collection of songs to start
the day (with of course that one exception).
    Thanks Ray.

Thanks, Don … but I have an explanation for my “mistake” and the explanation starts with YOU
I am very much aware that Mr. Nelson didn’t change to Rick until May 21, 1961 and that this song was the last single to use Ricky … BUT I kept this one at Rick because I remember (my memory is still sharp) that you mentioned that you preferred Rick so I used it here. 🙂
The Hyland song was a throw in for someone who loves the song.
Heather & Ray had a great interview with Freddy Cannon several years ago. He came across as a terrific guy and when I told him a lot of us remembered his vintage years with fond memories, he said (and this is a quote), “you guys are going to make me cry.”

Thank you for being so sensitive about my feelings concerning Rick. You are a true gentleman.
I really do enjoy starting the day listening and talking about music.
Music is truly magical and you are a great magician.
Ray, what is your email? I am thinking a a few playlists for you.

Now there were some great memories! Thanks Ray for another great clip of music …. it’s good to listen to music on a dreary day – it lifts the spirit! But of course you knew that! And I loved the “forgotten 45” — take care and stay safe! This one Rocked!

      Thank you, Barbara 🙂
Big Sixties party tomorrow (with another Forgotten 45)!
      ROCK THE EVENING!

Loved it, of course! The 60s are where it’s at! Thanks for reminding us how important music is for our soul! XOXOXOXO

Enjoyed each and every song! Thank you.

Great songs, along with great memories. I saw the Tokens at the Big E, sometime in the 80’s, I believe. Anyhow, it was a great show. They joked about how “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”, paid for all their alimony to ex wives, after The Lion King came out.

      Thanks, Pat.
      Love the Tokens’ memory 😉
