Vintage 1963 Medley / Part 3

When I started putting together medleys of 1963 music, I honestly had forgotten the number of great songs from that year. Today, there’s nine songs in the medley (because songs back then were fairly short, fitting nine songs into 21 1/2 minutes was easy).
The mix includes the first single ever released in the U.S. by The Beatles, long before the British Invasion started … It sold a scant 7,300 copies (but was um, much, bigger when it was re-released a year later.

The Ronettes, wow! The Wall of Sound! Does it get any better than this? I don’t think so. Phil was crazy but he made some great music.
My memory of George Hamilton IV is a guy in a blue blazer, white shirt & tie. Square man.
I love Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire but my favorite version is done by Wall of Voodoo. They rock that song. Stan Ridgeway took it to another level.
RickyNelson became a favorite from watching him every week on TV. Ozzie was genius at promoting him. I really love his work after he became Rick and formed The Stone Canyon Band.
The Angels, another one of those aggressive girl groups that I love so much.
Jan & Dean, who cares about surfing, cool cars & girls made me think I was missing something by not being on the West Coast.
The Beach Boys, once again, why was I born on the East Coast?
Ray you picked some real winners again. Thank you.

      Thank you, Don.
Be My Baby is without question one of my 10 favorites songs ever! Hal Blaine’s drums go right through me!
Hamilton didn’t have many pop hits, but he was very successful in the country music market, scoring thirty-nine Top 40 hits.
I moved to L.A. after graduating from high school because I thought there had to be something very special about the West Coast after growing up in little Springfield, VT. Considering the fact it was late 1968 and the “sex, drugs and rock and roll” lifestyle was all the rage, I have some pleasant and not-so-pleasant memories. The fascination with living that way didn’t last long and I was happy to get back to little old Springfield.

Ray I wonder which one of us is the Devil in disguise? Two girls for every boy!! I think we were both in that ring of fire!! So I’m going to leave it up to you..

      Good Morning Fred! πŸ™‚
I think both of us had that devil inside us when we were younger but at this point in time, I’m too old to even remember what kind of fun I had with that attitude! πŸ™‚
      ROCK ON!

No doubt about it ’63 had some of the best music ever! Think about it – small town that was safe; music that was the best; teachers and community leaders who really cared about us — we really did have it all didn’t we? And we were so ready to set the world on fire! Rock the Day Ray …. great choices for sure!

      Thanks, Barbara πŸ™‚
Living in Small Town America in 1963 was a very comfortable feeling for all the reasons you listed. Maybe we were too young to have any idea how much different it was in large cities (although that would change in time) but looking back, I wouldn’t trade the experiences we had for anything.
      ROCK THIS MISERABLE RAINY DAY!

I love everything about this medley! Every single song! I was having deja vu and felt like I was at the bottom of Rita Street. That’s where I learned about (and learned to love) all of these gems! Ah, Jan and DeeAnn πŸ™‚ I have listened 3 times this evening while cooking dinner and puttering around. THANK YOU! XOXOXOXO

Wendyl, that mention of Rita Street brings back so many memories! I smiled at the Jan and DeeAnn reference. πŸ™‚
I am so, so glad you enjoyed it and that it took you back in time. ❀️
      XOXOXOXO
