I’m playing the songs that dominated the charts in 1964 all week long, and today there are nine of them, including four #1 songs.
As always, I have listed the peak chart position for each song indicated in parentheses next to the artist name).

Ray, Ray, Ray, The Kinks…yes. Thank you.
Jan & Dean, Beach & Car music at its best! So tragic that this song foreshadowed the terrible accident that was to come.
Mary Wells, one of the truly great voices of Rock & Roll. I don’t think she ever got enough credit for her work. She hits it out of the park every time.
The Newbeats, how can you have a hit singing about bread and butter? They sure did.
The Shanghai Las, their bad/tough girl image served them well.
How cool are The Beach Boys. Makes you want to go cruising.
Thank you for putting together another great medley.

      Thanks, Don.
I had a feeling Mr. Davies might make you smile. 🙂
I appreciate the kind words about today’s medley but anyone who was a fan of the British Invasion should get a serious kick out of tomorrow’s tunes!
      ROCK ON!

Loved it, no surprise there! What did surprise me is the wide variety of music styles within the same year! Thanks for this!

      Thank YOU, Wendyl! ♥️
      XOXOXOXO

Another great group of memories Ray … and I agree with Wendy – 1964’s music was such a broad spectrum of styles. It was much more vibrant than it had been … not sure what or who caused and wonder if ’64 was the year where the change was most evident? The British invasion was underway for sure … I didn’t realize until this week how much I loved the music that year … was it their style that influenced music everywhere or was it something else. The depth of music was changing for sure. Rock the Day Ray …. and thank you…..

      Thanks, Barbara 🙂
The Invasion changed everything; music and beyond.
I was setting up tomorrow’s medley and when I finished the list, I looked at it and was blown away by the songs on it. It is truly staggering to remember how wonderful the music was that year and every song in tomorrow’s medley came from Britain.
      ROCK THE DAY!

Great music, today. I hadn’t heard Dean Martin’s song in a very long time. What a great variety of different styles. Loved it all(even bread & butter).

      Thanks, Pat 🙂
I’m so happy you enjoyed it … even bread and butter 😉

The issue w/ these Hits is that there comes a time when it’s over and it’s just dead air … can you program a 24 hr feed Ray ?

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Thank you, Dale 🙂
You know, I DID have a 24-hour feed (with 4,000 songs) for about 5 years (The Oldies Stream) but the hosting service disappeared overnight a couple of years ago and everything was lost. I have yet to find the patience to duplicate putting that monster back together.

You still da man .. Ty !

  6. Fred

Ray working with a friend for the next few days so I’m thinking how can anyone start off with Satchmo then put a Kink in the story line. It is like driving on Deadmans curve!! I always want to be on your side Ray but you really got me!! I thought it was my time but if I had it in my power Ray my guy would be saying hello to Dolly not eating bread and butter!! I do get around Ray and I realize that everybody loves somebody sometimes and you know that can’t be bad!! I wonder how in heck you kept this all with a newbeat!! What can I do Ray? Maybe I’ll go to Shangri-Las or just hang out with the Beach Boys drink a beer and watch the British invade us!!

    1. Ray (Post author)

      Welcome back, Fred! 🙂
Up to your usual tricks, I see, and since you mentioned watching the British invade us, just wait until tomorrow!
      ROCK ON!

  7. Pat Conant

You out did yourself again today, Fred. I love it!!

Ohh yes Hello Dolly! He sounds so swell singing to her. She will never go away again!
All because she has him going. He can’t sleep but he wants to at her side always even if he doesn’t know what he’s doing.
Oh no stay away from Dead Man’s Curve! No matter how it comes out she will be by his side forever. She gave her word of honor.
After all everybody loves somebody sometime and her sometime is now. He loves how she feeds him bread and butter. And toast and jam. So he is her loving man. Wait! Another man? Getting around? I thought she didn’t like fast cars?
Oh no! Her new man is letting her down. Whatever happened?
And in the end she go’s back because she loves you after all. Now she knows you are not the hurting kind! Bu please stay away from Dead Man’s Curve! You won’t come back.

    Great year 64
