1965 Vintage Medley / Part 4

The playback of the #1 hits from 1965 continues today with seven more chart toppers.
We’re playing all 27 #1 hits in chronological order and today’s medley takes us from June 19 through October 1.
We’ll wrap it up tomorrow with the final six songs to reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and then on Friday we’ll play a long selection of songs that didn’t reach that lofty height but did make it into the Top 10.

An interesting compilation of music today …. I was visiting my cousins in Boston when Sonny and Cher first sang this song … he laughed and said they would never last. Silly man … the Beatles were on fire … Barry McGuire’s song made me think about how the times were definitely changing … the war was on and unrest was starting to build … I didn’t see it then but I certainly do now. That’s why I love these so …. the music of our time had a message … Rock the Day my friend …. I’m already wondering what tomorrow will bring …

      Thanks, Barbara πŸ™‚
Sonny & Cher definitely were not a flash in the pan πŸ™‚
McGuire’s song is as relevant today as it was 55 years ago. As Pat Conant said, when will we ever learn? It appears that we never will.
Tomorrow will bring an end to the #1 songs (and they’re good) but Friday will feature a dozen songs that didn’t make it, but easily could (and should) have.
      ROCK THE DAY!

Wow, what a mix of #1’s. From uplifting & funny(Sugarpie & Henry the Eighth) to Eve of Destruction. Sad that this song is still true today. When will we ever learn?

      Thanks, Pat πŸ™‚
It really did go one extreme to the other but as Barbara said, perhaps it was because the times really started changing during that year.

Okay Ray no matter how hard I try I’ve got to play a tambourine!! I just can’t help myself. I know it seems like all my senses have been stripped, but when you hear that jingle gangle and when that man comes on the radio telling me about a man named Henry who’s been married 8 times, it makes me wonder why there are flowers in the spring? Ray I guess I need help and I do appreciate you being around but I feel like we are vanishing in the haze and it feels like we are on the eve of destruction!! But when you have surgarpie and Streamingoldies and part 5 coming how can we go wrong!!!

      Thank you, Fred πŸ™‚
Once again, you have literally made me laugh out loud. You keep getting better as time marches on.
      ROCK ON!

It goes on and on…1965 was a great year for music! Glad I was around to experience it first hand! Gives me great satisfaction to be able to say I danced and sang and went to a concert during this incredible year in music! Oh and the last song…goosebumps! I think next week it should be the number 2 hits in 1965.

I won’t be here the rest of the week but will listen as soon as I can!
    Enjoy!

After finishing the #1 songs on Thursday, I’ll be playing a dozen songs on Friday that didn’t hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1965 but were monster hits, nonetheless.
Sad to say there will be no medleys next week (I’ll be dealing with some health issues) but I will be back on September 11 with a VERY long history lesson and more medleys beginning on September 13.
      Enjoy Your Time Away!

      Penny, thank you πŸ™‚
Part 5 tomorrow (the rest of the #1 hits) and Part 6 on Friday (12 songs that didn’t reach #1) should keep you smiling. πŸ™‚
