1968 Vintage Medley / Part 6

We wrap up our journey back to 1968 with six songs that reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Before you play the medley, I want to point out just a few other songs from 1968 that I didn’t have time to play this week because I ran out of days!
For Once In My Life, Spinning Wheel, MacArthur Park, Cry Like A Baby, Young Girl, The Son of Hickory Holler’s Tramp, Classical Gas, Bend Me, Shape Me, Mony Mony, Dance To The Music, I Wish It Would Rain, The Weight, Stoned Soul Picnic, Turn Around, Look At Me, Build Me Up Buttercup, Revolution, Street Fighting Man, every song from the White Album, and a lot more!

Next week, we wander back to another year in music and that one is going to be extraordinary! It all starts on Sunday 🙂

What a outstanding week of music …. so many great songs that year …. maybe an encore at some point to give us another glimpse back … a great year for so many reasons including those dancing California raisins …. listening to Hey Jude in my college dorm room … smilin’ every day this week ….. Thanks Ray for reminding us of our youth … Rock on my friend …. stay safe and keep the music coming … it’s definitely in your soul!

      Thank you, Barbara 🙂
I’m so glad the music brought back such pleasant memories for you. I think revisiting the years I have already done so I can play some of the tunes I messed the first time around is an excellent idea, BUT first, I have a week coming up that will REALLY bring back memories. They will be a little older but I think you’ll enjoy it.
      ROCK THE DAY!

Ray for once in my life I feel like I’m spinning a wheel!! I still want to know what happened to Joe and Mrs. Robinson?? I heard it through the grapevine that they went to MacArthur Park. They kept saying hello hello Butercup, saying there would be a new dance not a revolution!! Ray did you laugh as much as I did seeing them laugh at the late night show?? They must have gone to that stoned soul picnic!! Ray please don’t let it get under your skin and don’t cry like a baby but Bobby Goldsboro is not the son of that tramp Hickery Holler!! I’m having some classical gas Ray so I better sign off!! Don’t worry Ray I’ll turn it around!! I feel like a big weight has been lifted!!

Fred, you are (and I mean this sincerely) a laugh out loud riot! 🙂

Simon & Garfunkel just never spoke to me. You know I like Folk, Folk Rock, Pop, Singer Songwriters but S&G just never moved me.
Marvin Gaye, what a talent! He made every song seem so natural to him. Tragic loss. ( did anyone record Grapevine and not have a hit? Marvin, Gladys even a bunch of raisins!)
The Doors really exploded onto the scene with their first album, broke all kinds of rules, and made fantastic music. The unique sound they had holds up very well even now.
Archie Bell, what happy music! My toes are still tapping. That music is infectious in the best possible way.
Bobby Goldsboro, I hate that song. (Not really)I feel so sad every time I hear it. Somehow I put myself into the song every time I hear it. I can’t help it. It really has that effect on me. Guess I’m just a big baby. To be honest not that many songs have that effect on me.
The Beatles make everyday better. Any song, any day, anytime.
(Ray you didn’t come up on my feed today, I had to look for you. Your making me work for the music!)

      Thanks, Don.
Let me get this out of the way first. I DETEST ‘Honey’ by Goldsboro!
As for Simon & Garfunkel, I was and remain a fan of Simon (Garfunkel, not so much). Maybe it’s because of The Boxer. My father was a boxer as a young man so I can identify with the final verse.
I can take or leave the Doors. I always enjoyed Krieger’s guitar skills and Manzarek’s keyboards but Morrison did nothing for me.
No secret that I was a huge Beatles fan 🙂
I hear you on the lack of notification on Facebook. There are days I get NONE on my newsfeed. Maybe Mark Zuckerberg is so busy developing new “technical advances” for his site that he forgot the original reason for starting it … Keeping People In Touch With Each Other!

I get why you DETEST “Honey “. I’m not proud that it has that effect on me but it does. It’s creepy. I don’t feel like a “ manly man” now that I have publicly confessed. I think I will go sit in a dark room now.

You shouldn’t feel bad about it, Don. Jud Strunk’s Daisy A Day has the same effect on me.

I hate to see it end. But what an ending it was! I am going to listen to this over and over( crimson and clover). Thanks for a week of memories. Can’t wait to see oops hear what’s next! We’d sing and dance forever and a day!

      Thank you, Donna 🙂
It was a lot of fun looking back at 1968 (and I will revisit it soon to play those songs I missed) but I hope you enjoy what’s coming next week just as much. You WILL be singing and dancing again!:)

It’s been another fantastic week! Thanks for the tunes! Music really is the answer! XOXOXOXO

Earlier today, I overheard someone talking about a passerby, “She’s walking down the street, blind to every eye she meets. Oh watch out lady, look to your left, now look to your right. She looks kinda dumb and kinda smart.” I’m listening to him and I’m just about to lose my mind. I calmly say, “Whoa, whoa, whoa…relax man. As a fellow human being, try and remember to let her into your heart.

      Thank you, Wendyl 🙂
Even after a first week back at school, prepping for those soon to return students, you STILL dazzled me with your ability to turn a bunch of songs into a clever little story!
      Here’s to you, Mrs. P!
      XOXOXOXO
