Some days are better than others when it comes to music releases; November 5 happens to be one of those dates. Today we have six songs connected to November 5th; four singles were released, a track from an album released on this date, and on a sad note, an anniversary of a death.
On November 5, 1965 (54 years ago today!), The Who released this epic single in the U.S. It didn’t chart high (peaking at #74) but it exposed the band to an American audience that had never seen anything like them before.
On November 5, 1984 (35 years ago today!), Bryan Adams released his ‘Reckless’ album. Six songs were released as singles, and this one reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
On November 5, 1971 (48 years ago today!), Elton John released his ‘Madman Across The Water’ album. The album included this single, which peaked at #24 on the Billboard Hot 100.
On November 5, 1971 (48 years ago today!), Led Zeppelin released this single off the ‘Led Zeppelin III’ album. The single peaked at #16 on the Billboard Hot 100.
On November 5, 1995 (24 years ago today!), Queen released ‘Made In Heaven’, the band’s first release after the death of lead singer Freddie Mercury in 1991.
Guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor, and bass guitarist John Deacon worked with vocal and piano parts that Mercury recorded before his death, adding new instrumentation to the recordings.
On this song, Mercury sang the first verse, Taylor sang the second verse and bridge, and May sang the last verse.
The video shows a very playful side of the band, a side that many people have never seen.
On November 5, 1989 (30 years ago today!) Barry Sadler died of cardiac arrest at the age of 49. On September 7, 1988, Sadler was shot in the head while sitting in a cab in Guatemala City, and as a result, he suffered brain damage and was partially paralyzed. He is, of course, best known for this #1 song in 1966.
This date was definitely a great day for music! Thanks! Enjoyed them all!
And tomorrow (I think) will be even better, Wendyl!
Well it took me all day, but I loved every single one of your choices. My favorite might’ve been Bryan Adams. Thanks for the great assembly your choices are awesome!
Thank you so much, Sandy 🙂
Hope life is treating you well my friend and you weathered the Halloween storms!! Sorry about not following lately … just have a lot going on, on top of working .. oh well! Great set of songs!! My favorite is the Green Beret, I did not know the story of Barry Sadler … how sad!!
Thank you, Penny. 🙂
I’m doing okay for an old guy (LOL)! Never, ever apologize for doing what you need to do. 🙂
Barry had quite a life after he left the service. He changed a lot from the clean-cut Green Beret everyone fell in love with.
I agree – sorry to be late, all great, and so sad to hear Barry Sadler’s fate. Remember that song and how my mother loved it …. now I’m intrigued to learn more about his life ….. thanks for sparking interest in learning for all that listen and/or read ….
Thanks, Barbara, I think you’ll find Sadler’s life was certainly not dull!
