“In a soldier’s stance, I aimed my hand at the mongrel dogs who teach. Fearing not that I’d become my enemy, in the instant that I preach. Sisters fled by confusion boats, mutiny from stern to bow. Ah, but I was so much older then, I’m younger than that now.”
~Bob Dylan
1967 was a coast-to-coast (and worldwide) amalgam of cultural change, political questioning, personal liberation and psychedelic exploration. From Haight-Ashbury to New York and beyond, the year’s touchstones included the Monterey Pop Festival and the Summer of Love (which explains the last song in the medley).
This one could have gone on a lot longer (and I mean a lot longer) but I never want to overdo it. Sadly that means the Bee Gees, Jefferson Airplane, Tommy James, and so many more favorites from that year didn’t make the cut.

Small Faces – Five Americans – Jackie Wilson
Van Morrison – The Who – Cream
Chambers Brothers – Beatles
I was so much older then with a clock that always says twelve thirty. We skipped the light fandango and turned cartwheels ‘cross the floor, it’s all too beautiful. Western Union there’s another girl for me, lifting me higher and higher. Hey, where did we go, playing a new game, my brown eyed girl. I can see for miles and miles, you thought that I would need a crystal ball to see right through the haze. I’ll be with you when the stars start falling, in the sunshine of your love. Now the time has come, I don’t care what others say, all you need is love.
Penny, that is EXCELLENT! One of the things I’m going to miss when I go on summer vacation is reading your song commentaries. β€
“Those were the Days…. love them all. Thank you
They certainly were, Nancy. As always, thank you for listening. β€
We were so lucky to grow up to all of this fine music…timeless! Jackie Wilson with my favorite version of that uplifting song.
As always thank you Ray π
Thank you, Eileen. Yes, we were very lucky to grow up in an era that gave us so many musical memories. The Jackie Wilson song is my favorite by him. π
The medleys are never too long and this one was wonderful.
Thank you for listening, Dan. π
1967 was indeed another good year for music. It was also the year of the birth of my second son, Kevin! What a difference between 64 and 67, the music melody, and lyrics. What a treat some of the songs I havenβt heard for such a long time. Of course I have them on my Bose speaker on the flatscreen Iβm sure my neighbors wondering what I do !! We have a lot of walkers in the morning and evening. As they walk past my house Iβm sure they can see the boards moving in and out! Showing up all you need is love! What a wonderful song to end up on. There should be more of love in the world. Thank you Ray for another treat, to tantalize our inner souls.
Thanks, Sandy β€οΈ
You absolutely ROCK!
Thanks for bringing back the GOOD MUSIC!!!!
It is my pleasure, Nancy π
The year I got married. Good choices for that time
Thnks, Fred.
’67 was an outstanding year in music, although just about every year in the 60s could say the same thing!
Another great medley and yes there are more great ones not covered here. I think that a large amount of people need to hear the last one … “all you need is love” and maybe the world would be a more pleasant place .. just my thoughts!!
Again, thank you for taking time and sharing Ray .. you absolutely rock!
Thank you, Penny β€οΈ
There will be another dose of ’67 tunes coming soon.
We could all use a few more “love” anthems during these troubling times.
Rock this day!
Another outstanding set in an amazing times! I graduated from college, Dartmouth, in 1967 and went to work for IBM! Two events that determined my path through life. Boy, was I full of myself. Sure went through some ups and downs!! I learned some tough lessons, but had a blessed and amazing journey! Thanks for this music that I love so much and have given me terrific memories! Ray, you are a blessing!!!!
Peter, thank you for a very well-expressed commentary. The medleys I play are designed to evoke memories of the special times in our lives and it appears you have tapped into that. I so appreciate this comment!
Oh yeah ’67 was such a good year in music Ray. We were sitting on top of the world and saw everything through rose colored classes. Our bubble would burst soon enough but for the time we were invincible. Love the music — and absolutely agree it could go on much much longer. Take care my friend. Rock these cool Fall Days!
Thanks, Barbara. π
We thought we were practically invincible. Living in a small town in Vermont, we were so naive about what was going on … outside in the real world.
But the music was worldwide and we embraced all of it!
ROCK THE WEEKEND!
