Well, this is a first for me. It’s a “medley” consisting of ONE song! Short though it may be, the message is very timely. Commenting on the song in 1974, George Harrison said, “Instead of getting stuck in a rut, everybody should try ringing out the old and ringing in the new. People often sing about it, but they never actually apply it to their lives.”
An all-star backing band (Ringo Starr and Jim Keltner on drums, Harrison, Alvin Lee and Ron Wood on guitars, Klaus Voorman on bass, Gary Wright on piano, and Tom Scott on saxophone) created a party atmosphere, but not content with the song, Harrison then added tubular bells to the tune in an attempt to simulate a chiming clock on New Year’s Eve. The result was a Top 40 hit in the U.S. and England.
