There is something very magical about music. The magic referenced in the title of the opening song today is the power of music to supply happiness and freedom to both those who make it and those who listen to it.

There’s something else very magical about music. Even if a song you might be listening to is 60 or 70 years old, the odds are pretty damn good you’ll remember it within 3 or 4 notes. I’ll bet that’s true with the songs in this medley. Know why? That’s because music is timeless.

The reason for this mini-rant and the photo below is explained in the early part of the medley. When the comment referenced in my explanation was made to me, it astounded me. No really, it shocked me and to be blunt, it pissed me off.

My love of music from the 50s and 60s is more than the fact the music was so great. Frankly, without the rock and roll pioneers of the 50s, we would never have had the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys, and a huge roster of 60s artists who all combined to change the world.

And there is one more very important reason why I choose to play oldies. When I play a song from that incredible era, I’m doing a lot more than just playing oldies, I’m playing memories! I’m playing the soundtrack of your life!

And I don’t intend to stop. I refuse to allow my memories (and yours) to be ignored or shuffled off to some far away corner just because we’re in our seventies.
