Let me tell you a horror story; one that came very close to driving me out of my mind. The guy who enjoys passing out smiles certainly wasn’t doing much of it, and there was a very good reason for that.

I had lost everything I had created for my web site. That meant 13 years of music (over 30,000 songs), photographs (over 40,000 of them) and documents (literally thousands and thousands) had been lost in one fell swoop.

All of the items above (and a hell of a lot more personal stuff) were stored on a terabyte external hard drive. That’s one trillion bytes of information. On August 15, the day after I had completed the first Girls, Girls, Girls music medley, I started work on Part 2.

When I went to retrieve a song, it suddenly happened. Nothing opened. No files. And then I received the error message. The external hard drive wasn’t working. I unplugged it and restarted the computer.

Nothing.

At that point, I was overwhelmed with the thought of having lost everything I had assembled since July 2005. It. Was. Gone.

In desperation, I brought the hard drive into Best Buy’s Geek Squad. They confirmed it had crashed but I was told that maybe (and only maybe) some of the information on the drive could be salvaged. It would require sending the unit to Kentucky. Having no other choice, I agreed.

Two weeks later, I checked on the status of the “recovery” only to find the hard drive had been sent to the wrong address and had been sent back to the West Lebanon store. However, “Robert M” (and I wish I knew his last name) said I should have them sent it his attention in Kentucky and that he would be on the lookout for it.

I had nothing to lose.

Four more weeks of worrying and then I received another call from Robert. He had been able to retrieve EVERYTHING and was putting all of it on a new external hard drive!

I almost cried.

And then in November, I had two heart attacks. Obviously, the latter part of 2018 is not going to be a great memory for me.

While I wait for the surgery that will repair the defect in my heart, I only wish “Robert” could do the procedure.

Hopefully this explains why Part 2 of the Songs With Girl Names has been so long in the making but today it is finally here, along with a repeat of Part 1 just below it. The horror story had a happy ending.
