If Rob Tyner of MC5 was here, he’d simply yell, “Kick out the jams,” but he isn’t here so we’ll just have to let Grand Funk do the honors with our opening song.
I chose that song because the first four songs (and the last) are organ-driven memories from the past. The rest of the songs? Well, they certainly are all memories from the soundtrack of your life, too, only minus the organ wizardry of Mark Farner, Alan Price, Matthew Fisher, and Steve Winwood, respectively.
We have four Grammy Award winners (every one of them at the expense of The Beatles), an iconic Chuck Berry song, a misunderstood tune from Steely Dan, and a failed attempt to recreate the CCR sound but became a smash hit anyway.
We close out with a Double A-side record from The Beatles before finishing with more keyboard skills demonstrated by John Paul Jones, the much too often overlooked member of Led Zeppelin.

I’m going to assume that means you approve of the music, Jo-Anne!
Thanks for letting me know. That helps a lot.
Great memories listening to the songs this morning. I love that you are doing mixes of 60s and 70s. I got to see Steely Dan in concert several years ago and I had forgotten how much I loved those songs. Roger Miller reminds me of my Mom!! Thanks Ray!
Thank you, Jackie, for the wonderful comments! β€
If I brought back special memories, that’s a great bonus!
Absolutely loved the Oregon music songs, from the intro all the way through! I also am with Killian, and I love the house of the rising sun! Itβs one of those songs I used to play in my car up on as loud as possible. But the other things that were mixed in like the Roger Miller song, which I sang along with because of after all, I know every word in the song, and The Statler Brothers, I have an entire album, and I actually think they are quite the group. Love their music, and know all the words. Chuck Berry and I loved hearing the Beatles would love hearing them anytime. look at you, throwing in Frank Sinatra! I am sure his songs are more popular as the years go by than they ever were when he cut them. This was an explosion of sound this morning and Iβd loved every second. I did lots of dancing and lots of singing, even the cat looked at me like I was doing something out of the ordinary. Please donβt ever apologize for something being too long, I didnβt want it to ever end. βYou are the bestβπ₯°
Thanks, Sandy β€
I want to emphasize that I had no problem with the songs by the Statler Brothers and Roger Miller. I enjoyed both of them, especially Roger, but I will never think the two songs that were awarded Grammys were “rock and roll.” As for Frank, how can anyone not like him?
All of that said, I am very happy you ang along, even if your cat thought there was something slightly wrong with you! π
Well this was the House of The Rising Sun!! I donβt know how you doi it but to add Frank Sinatra in this group amazes me it works!! This brought back many memories!! And nothing is real in Strawberry Field!! This songs has such meaning to it!! The lineup was fantastic!! Another great start to my day!!
Love ya
Thank you, Fred! β€ I am always happy when you have the time to chime in!
I was a little unsure about adding Mr. Sinatra but hey, he won so he deserved to be there!
Have a super duper day!
Love ya!
From across the miles, you seem to know what my brain needs today. Thanks Ray!
Thank you, Nancy β€
Maybe it’s a psychic connection! Whatever it is, I’m very glad you enjoyed the music!
Charlie would have loved this such great keyboards As you know Whiter Shade of Pale is an all time fave
No accounting for taste at the R&R Hall of Fame in 66…really?
Before the end of the medley I noted that Thursday is not usually rocking but figured there would be Valentine’s picks on Friday
Just call me psychic ha ha rational for a change
Thank you, Mary Helen β€
I swear on my mother’s grave I had Charlie ion my mind when I started laying the organ songs.
It’s good to be rational from time to time, but never overdo it! π
Hi Ray- So sorry that I donβt regularly reply. I do very much enjoy your memory lane tunes. I just usually have the music end, shut down my IPad and forget about a comment or two.
Thanks as always for doing this, and keep it coming as long as your health and energy allow. Would love to pay a visit sometime if that works. You can PM me at rwhingston69@gmail.com or text 802-359-2434, whatever works.
Best to you and Jane
Thank you, Bob β€
I appreciate your kind words.
I will drop you a line.
I think I am hoarse now (Not that I wasn’t when I started!π)!
I liked hearing Steely Dan’s “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number”. We both liked Procol Harum’s “A Whiter Shade of Pale” and both Beetle’s songs.
We can’t imagine how the Beatle’s two songs, “Help” & “Yesterday” lost out to so many of the songs, except that Killian did like the Statler Brothers’ “Flowers on the Wall”. He picked up on a smoking cigarettes theme in this song and the next by Roger Miller.
We both absolutely loved “Johnny Be Goode” by Chuck Berry. Oh, and did I mention that we sang “House of the Rising Sun” three times!!!
Killian seems to pick up on the songs that I can sing a few of the lyrics to.
We had a great morning together (2 hour school delay), listening to these songs. He likes hearing about the stories that songs bring me back to. Like me living in Bangor Maine (“King of the Road”) or me being taken to see Captain Kangaroo (“Flowers on the Wall”) ,in person, by my grandmother in Pittsburgh.
Thank you for making all of this so much fun!

That was an AMAZIBG commentary! β€β€ I really loved the way the two of you discussed the connection Roger’s and the Statler Brothers’ songs and YOU! The visit to Captain Kangaroo must have ben a thrill for you. I met Bob Keeshan much later in his life when he lived about 10 miles from me.
You two guys remind me of Dylan and me when Dylan was Killian’s age … two peas in a pod. And we still are!
We are both very blessed! β€
We certainly are! β€οΈβοΈ

2-16-2025 Ted & I listened late again. Thanks Ray, for our Sunday musical medley. Hope you’re having a pleasant weekend.
Thank you, Lee & Ted β€β€
Better late than never. I am so glad you enjoyed it!
